HUMMER Uses SEMA Show To Announce Brand Refocusing

Fresh off a signed final agreement to be sold to a Chinese company, HUMMER is getting back in the game at the 2009 SEMA show. The company said earlier today it's going to refocus it's brand messaging on off-road agility and capability, and will also showcase two SEMA concept vehicles. One called the H3 Moab and the other is the H3T Sportsman.

Sure wish Hummer would make an H3T regular cab like the original concept .

I always thought Moab would be a cool name for an off-road vehicle, but these builds are all off-the-shelf parts, something that Rancho would build to show off their product, not a manufacturer.

"The [Hummer] H4 [also known as the HX] and H3T concepts are good examples of where Hummer’s future products could go.” - HUMMER spokesperson in June of this year.

So did Mark LaNeve - he said that originally they played around with names like Moab instead of the alpha-numeric H1, H2, etc that they ended up going with. (in an interview @ Chicago Auto Show in 2008)

Did the government say you can't buy a Hummer? I didn't get the memo. Maybe I'll tell them at SEMA that Uncle Sam says they can't sell any.

I think the LR Defender and the Toyota Land Cruiser (as well as Jeep) will have some solid competition in the future.

I think he may be talking about the questionable stop in U.S. production while production for 2010 models outside the U.S. was allowed - a strange move considering there was more demand in the U.S.

Or, he may be talking about the fuel economy standards that will put a strain on specialty, purpose built vehicles that have range and capability standards that currently can only be achieved using gas/diesel engines.

In either event, U.S. production of 2010 models started last week and should be at U.S. dealers soon.

Re: HUMMER Uses SEMA Show To Announce Brand Refocusing

Any word on whether the Chinese company plans on using some other powerplant for the HUMMER's in the future?

I would be happy (to a certain extent) if they continued to use the GM line of engines to power the trucks.

No official word yet, but they will have very strong parts/manufacturing ties with GM for the foreseeable future.

Re: HUMMER Uses SEMA Show To Announce Brand Refocusing

Are you telling me that there is a direction in which Hummer can go that makes sense?

This is an incredible move. Sure it will limit the volume, but be smart, build three sizes of the same basic vehicle and you do not need any giant volume.

Interesting what BRAND IDENTITY and BRAND FOCUS can do!

Re: HUMMER Uses SEMA Show To Announce Brand Refocusing

This announcement is very telling..... Hummer was suppose to be an off roading brand however Ive always stated that GM doesn't know how to run a niche brand. So this is clearly stating that Hummer as a off road brand is purely PR otherwise they wouldn't have to make this announcement.

This is why GM also failed Pontiac and GM is highly likely to fail Cadillac and Buick as well, all GM should have is Chevy because that is really all they are good at doing......
