They are proof that GM doesn't have any money nor the understanding to make proper Pontiacs.

The Solstice which has a turbo four cylinder engine and is relatively light and affordable isn't flying out of showrooms despite fuel prices. That should tell everyone something about the Pontiac brand.

They still need to cut more. All of this nonsense with big pickup trucks, SUVs, and "Hummers" for family usage is ending forever. It really was just a 15 year period of silly behavior by people who should have known better.

They need to build good cars in all sizes, from very small to full sized with large trunks for family and business usage, not try to push outdated or poorly engineered and finished junk. Ever size car, from teh very smallest to the very largest, should be readily available with all of the same fancy features and top quality materials.

Oil prices should not go up before November as I doubt OPEC nations would want to interfere with the Presidential Election. But look out after Jan 1!

Re: GM's Hummer brand under review for sale or major revamp

Hummer just needs to go. GM has enough full size SUV's. Plus they aren't anything exciting.

Re: GM's Hummer brand under review for sale or major revamp

This is GM's problem- they have no clue how to seperate the identities of thier brands. They are too busy trying to make every brand appeal to every customer. Maybe they need to spin off a couple badges. Stop trying to rebadge everything and give your brands some individuality.
Does anyone see Ferarri or Porsche or Lamborghini closing plants? No, and why? Because they know they have a niche vehicle and treat it as such. Make something that your target audience wants to buy and it doesn't matter what kind of gas mileage it gets OR how much it costs.
GM needs to start letting it's BRANDS acts more like seperate COMPANIES.
HUMMER quite simply makes one of the most capable off-road ranges in the business. And there are still people that buy these vehicles for thier intended purpose, not just as a status symbol.
Furthermore, HUMMERS are selling like mad out in the middle east (I would know, I am in Abu Dhabi UAE right now) where gas prices are still between $1-2 or less per gallon.
If HUMMER downsized thier operations (ie close dealerships and go low-volume) they would sell enough vehicles to be a niche COMPANY, just like porsche, ferarri, et al.

Re: GM's Hummer brand under review for sale or major revamp

Hummer will be no different than erstwhile brands like LaSalle or Eagle. Around for a decade or so, then dropped because of changes in the market, or restructuring within a company.

The Cadillac 60-series killed LaSalle, and Eagle hung around solely for dealer commitments.

Re: GM's Hummer brand under review for sale or major revamp

Maybe save the name plate by putting a Hummer style nose clip on an Aveo in the spirit of the "G-3" and call it "Hummer Mini-Me" ?

Huge difference between Hummer and Ferrari.

One company makes performance cars for those people with the means to buy them and keeps the prices high to limit their market. The other company makes a bunch of poser vehicles bought by people attempting to show off and act like some kind of modern-day Rambos.

I'll be happy the day the last Hummer is built - if it's caused by the market and not a shortage of gasoline.

Re: GM's Hummer brand under review for sale or major revamp

Since Jeep no longer makes real off roaders (except for the Wrangler), who will make our pure off road trucks?

Did GM really expect these to sell in such large numbers? It's a small market- and it's a way to supplement sales of the existing mid sized and large chassis.

Uh, who cares? Unless you own the land, you can hardly go off-roading anymore anyway. Restore an old Jeep. Build a tube-frame off-roader. Buying a pretentious, luxurious poser vehicle that is used 99% of the time on MTV or sitting in a parking lot in Brentwood is not off roading. It's 'Hey look at me!', nothing more. A real off-roader wouldn't be caught dead in a Hummer. Jeep, International, Willys....they're 'pure. Hummer is a joke. 'Pure' off roaders don't come with leather, A/C and power windows.

Let it die with dignity, don't wait until it's a punch line or there's some website where people diss it....oh, wait it's too late. Kill it, kill it now.

Yeah, because Lambo and Ferrari owners never want to show off.

Re: GM's Hummer brand under review for sale or major revamp

Hummer used to be a niche brand.
Now it's where you go if a Denali or Escalade aren't ridiculously expensive enough.

It's not exactly 'discerning car buyer' territory.
