Re: GM Pulls the Plug on HUMMER Effective Immediately
I don't believe this one damn bit, unless GM says it's a official this is total and complete BS.

Re: GM Pulls the Plug on HUMMER Effective Immediately
Easier said then done. SUVs of all shapes and sizes have the low MPG stigma attached to them and their sales are going nowhere but down even with the increases in fuel economy. $4 gas is effectively destroying the SUV segment in record time. Say goodbye to anything that isn't a crossover because the auto companies cannot afford to keep producing things that people are afraid to buy. They could have the best gas mileage out there but the negative perception is firmly ingrained into the American/Canadian psyche. Because let's face it now, 30 mpg doesn't cut it anymore.

Re: GM Pulls the Plug on HUMMER Effective Immediately
Good....I found it embarassing as an American that these gas-chugging copies of military vehicles being used in a war of aggression against oil-rich Iraq would in that same time frame enjoy market success...it reinforced the image of us as self-absorbed resource hogs viewing the world as ours to harvest. Good riddance.

Re: GM Pulls the Plug on HUMMER Effective Immediately
I agree with you in what I put in bold. Why wouldn't GM just sell it? Do they believe no one wants it? I would at least try first. Just killing it makes no sense.... especially since GM could really use the money.

Re: GM Pulls the Plug on HUMMER Effective Immediately
Maybe GM could refresh the Hummer H3 and rebadge it as Chevy, it seems like a real shame to kill off such a great vehicle.

Re: GM to close 4 North American truck plants, may axe Hummer, Volt to be made in Det

Also with a huge drop in vacation plans the need for a new truck to pull that boat or trailer to a getaway is not there, you can blame gas prices for this drop and reluctance of buyers but the housing market and bad economy are also factors, so Full Size Truck sales will rebound better than many think. They may not get quite to the point that they were but will remain major players with all the manufacturers who build them. Full size BOF SUV sales peaked before this year and the move to Crossovers has been there for a while - the troubling thing is that there are few buyers out there for cars and it will get worse - even for those who had gains this month, the economy is going nowhere but down and all retail sales will follow. |

Buzz and the CAW are pissed, and rightfully so. GM screwed them on the contract they signed just weeks ago.
Guess what this means... the Camaro is almost guaranteed to be delayed by a Strike.

Toyota will soon have have more assembly plants in Ontario than GM (well, I guess it would be even with the joint venture with suzuki). Same goes for Ford.
