Re: GMI Exclusive: 2010 Saturn Aura on "Hold"
Well, I was eagerly anticipating this car to replace my 01 Olds Aurora (3.5). I was hoping for a turbo 2.0L 4 banger with a six speed. If GM truly cancels this car, then maybe its time to leave GM for good. Ford is bringing over their European cars and building them here, so I'll give them a shot.

Re: GMI Exclusive: 2010 Saturn Aura on "Hold"
Exactly! It's not about Silverado, it's about GM. GM will sell more Silverados/Sierras than Silverados alone. With the two trucks, they represent 1/3 of the major full-size truck offerings (Chevy, GMC, Ford, Dodge, Toyota, & Nissan). Without GMC, they are only 1/5. Same with Tahoe/Yukon. And doesn't the Denalli trim level make up 1/3 of Yukon sales? That's a high-profit niche that I think Chevrolet would have a hard time filling.

With the way things are, I'd be rushing the new Aura to market and not putting it on hold. It makes no sense unless there is some engineering reason for it. While they are at it, hurry up with a new G6 or at least give this one a new interior.

Geltlemen, Ladies please allow cooler heads to prevail. The very worst thing GM could do at this point would be to kill Saturn. To allow Saturn to continue as is much longer is nearly as bad an idea.
To continue pointing fingers at Who's responsible for the Aura launch desaster is an excersize in futility. I have a modest proposal, watch this spot for more information. |

Re: GMI Exclusive: 2010 Saturn Aura on "Hold"
I was really looking forward to this as a potential replacement to my Audi. My fingers were crossed for a Red Line version. The B8 platform A4/S4 is not appealing to me, the 3 series is too rice and looks like a Chinese Honda. The C class looks like a sad wannabe luxury car. I was hoping that this might be my first "American" car since 1990. The Insignia's smart design would help Saturn acquire a lot of new customers that wouldn't consider a Chevy, Buick or Pontiac. Looks like it'll have to be a G37 for me. Keeping the good stuff for Europe and selling crap to the domestic US customers is something that we expect from Ford. But lately, it appeared that GM had learned their lesson after three decades of bad strategy and bad product. Spose not.

Re: GMI Exclusive: 2010 Saturn Aura on "Hold"
There's a posting on Saturnfans.com that the Aura will be produced in its current form until 2012-13.
There is a quote from Jill (forget her last name), the brand manager of Saturn, saying that originally the 07 Aura was to have an accelerated 3.5 year lifecycle, but now it will have a "normal" 5-6 year lifecycle. So, once again we will see 2 new Accords (08, 13) before a new Aura! Of course, the next one could be even uglier. Like someone else who posted above, I also have an 01 Aurora V6 (great car!) that I would like to replace in 2010 or 2011. I like the European-flavor of the Aura, and I will likely go to Ford if they can bring over their designs intact. |

Re: GMI Exclusive: 2010 Saturn Aura on "Hold"
I'm skeptical GM would wait 3 to 4 years to bring the Insignia to North America. Insignia and Malibu would be the perfect duo, (and would thoroughly illustrate GM's brand strategy of entry level [cheaper Chevy on EpI], the nimble mid-market Euro [Insignia], and the large car with all the luxuries [the eventually arriving Buick Invicta/Lacrosse]).
I could see GM pausing progress for 2 reasons; - Demand for the Insignia is (projected) higher then what they initially thought, and it will take a lot longer to ramp up the extra production for Saturn. - They're pondering the idea of replacing Saturn with Opel in North America. Why sell upscale European cars as Saturn's, when you can sell them as upscale European cars. How ever, and why ever, I just hope this car gets here a.s.a.p.

Re: GMI Exclusive: 2010 Saturn Aura on "Hold"
More importantly, when are we getting a new G6???
My 07 Aura XE has been giving me soo many problems, I'm ready to go back to Pontiac or leave GM completely!!! My mom has an XR and has no problems whatsoever... Just my luck I guess

Next gen LaCrosse (please GM, insert INVICTA here) goes into production 1st Qtr '09 as 2010 model, announcement in GM broadcast today reinforced the early intro of the next LaCrosse.

If they're getting rid of Cobalt, the least they can do is get rid of LaCrosse as well. And they had better not rename it Soccer or FenCing or some other stupid collegiate sport.
