I would also if possible to sell the Astra until the new Buick compact arrives as well. The Aura is a fine car that could be around until the new Regal/Insignia arrives and the Vue is an awesome little crossover that could be sold in the same showroom for the time being with the more trucky Terrain. I know GM won't do this but lets face it, Saturn still has nice cars
General Motors just used the bankruptcy as an excuse to close about a third of their dealerships. The last thing they are going to do is keep hundreds of additional dealerships around.

I posted in a thread a few days ago about the resale value on my Saturn dropping like a rock, and GM offering me a free oil change. People asked me to explain why I thought it was dropping. Well, HERE YOU GO. The 2009 Saturn I paid $34,300 for now cost $29,300 brand new. So, since mine is used with 10,000 miles on it, it will be worth much less. GM just knocked $5,000 off the resale value of my car.
The tough part is rear facing car seats, you have to have room to put the drivers seat back and not hit the car seat. A new Malibu barely touches when my wife drives, we need an Impala, Minivan or big SUV to sit comfortibly and safely.

How long was it since you had your little ones?

Federal mandates have really pushed to improve for child safety. Car seat requirements are a pain in the ass now-a-days. I threw down over $200 for a convertible car seat since so I wouldn't have to buy a booster seat once my daugher grew out of the regular car seat.

They don't need this in my area, there might be 5 new Saturns on the lot here... If that!

Welcome to the NEW Generous Motors. It's a lot like the OLD Generous Motors.

I'm waiting a couple more weeks before I strike on my GP GXP.
Maybe there'll be some used car rebates on Pontiacs by then...

I think this makes good sense. Better to just get the inventory off the lots so GM can move on. Until then, every time someone sees a Saturn on a dealer lot it reminds them of a failure.

Besides, has anyone seen the financing they offer? The article says $4000 off OR 0% financing. They've already offered 0% financing.

If you get $4000 off and then a loan at 8%, you aren't saving any money over no-haggle sticker price and 0% financing anyway.

It's just a sales trick.

Like the good old days. I remember never wearing a seat belt and god only knows what sort of child seat my parents used (they were probably too cheap to buy one anyways and I was probably just held by my mom while my dad drove.) I remember seeing kids laying across the rear panel against the window getting some sun while the car was being driven.

I think kids are being coddled too much now-a-days. They aren't building up toughness and "immunity" against injuries. That is probably why kids are dying when they get hit with baseballs now.

In the 90s I did it time to time (riding in the bed of a pickup)...but now in maryland that is almost a instant ticket if you get spotted by a cop. They have gotten very restrictive when it comes to safety.

Since these are owned by the "Old GM" I'd assume they have already been written of in the bankruptcy. I wonder if the proceeds from selling these will go to GM, Liquidation Motors, or the Government? $4-5000 off is not enough I think.

You're kidding, right? I have photo albums from my parents' and grandparents' generation with some people that got killed in car accidents that would have survived in safer modern cars.

This is like complaining about the new playgrounds with soft curves to all the climbing equipment and recycled tire padding all around. Yes they cost more than old playgrounds. But they really do save lives.

I would assume that if these assets were/are part of the bankrupt GM and money from liquidation would go into a pool which is paid out to the various creditors and what not.
