Re: GM Eager To Keep Pontiac/Saturn Customers; 1.6mm To Get Free Oil Change Coupon

isn't this a slap in the face... it is insulting how cheap this offer is!

Here we killed your brand with hardly any notice so here's a free oil change. Come on by and get a new Chevy

Show me the money to keep my business. Your the one who pulled the rug out from underneath my feet.

I'm no expert on resale value but why would it go down? Wouldn't they go up as they are no longer available and therefore collectible?

If you were lucky enough to get one of the few thousand hardtop coupe versions, I think you'd be sitting pretty nice in terms of resale.

Why not mail them a full line GM catalog?

Re: GM Eager To Keep Pontiac/Saturn Customers; 1.6mm To Get Free Oil Change Coupon

Offering the customers a special cash/rebate incentive would probably appeal a lot more than some free oil change (or changes.) If GM sent me a reasonable incentive offer I would very strongly consider purchasing a new GM product. If GM didn't provide me with anything I would certainly put a significant effort into cross shopping different vehicles and purchasing the one I felt was the best bang for the buck (in my mind.)

That's no good - there is nothing to go in other brands leaving Pontiac - no replacements available for G8, Solstice, G6 convertible, or Vibe ...

GM was really unwise to translate the Vibe to another brand. Great little activity vehicle.

I think it takes a while for a car, even that one, to become a collector's item.

I wasn't aware they made a hard top version of the SKY.

Well there ya go !!!! And here some of you naysayers thought that GM would do nothing to keep all of those Saturn/Pontiac fans.

Silly people.

I can just imagine the thought that went into this offer................ the sleepless nights.............. the tossing and turning. The wondering if GM can afford such a generous and overwhelming offer, to keep customer loyalty. It just boggles the mind.

We can be comforted in the fact that GM has led the way, and showed other companies how to eliminate brands, without losing customers. The bar has truly been set.

I agree. I'm not concerned about resale on my G8 the least bit. Nor would I be concerned if I had a Sky or Solstice. Now my Vue, on the other hand, will drop like a rock, as will Auras, G6s, etc...

Re: GM Eager To Keep Pontiac/Saturn Customers; 1.6mm To Get Free Oil Change Coupon

Good Grief. Calm down everyone. There are many of us who just bought a Pontiac or Saturn product. If they gave me a $6000 off coupon towards any GM product for the next six months, it would be virtually worthless to me because I am not planning on buying again for anyone in the family for at least two years or so.

I believe the free oil change is only the "start" of the discussion to keep these free agents. The free oil change will be appreciated by me and used in the near future.

Give them a chance. What will Honda offer you to jump over? Crappy trade-in for your "inferior" American car and a pompous attitude? They can stuff it. Along with the lousy attitudes from Toyota and Nissan stealerships too.

Re: GM Eager To Keep Pontiac/Saturn Customers; 1.6mm To Get Free Oil Change Coupon

When Ford quit importing the Merkur XR4Ti in 1989 I got a $2000.00 voucher good towards any new Ford, Lincoln or Mercury product. I promptly used it on a 1990 Taurus SHO demo. Between the voucher, rebate and demo sale program I received more than $6000.00 in discounts. The car had 250 miles on it. Adjusted for inflation, in 2009 I get a $40.00 oil change from GM. I already get free oil changes from BMW. GM is going to have to dig deeper into their pockets full of my money to retain me.

Re: GM Eager To Keep Pontiac & Saturn Customers; 1.6m To Get Free Oil Change Coupon

Susan, Susan, Susan. It is like offering the Indians cheap cigars after the trail of tears.

You must be delusional if you think the 1.6 million of us (not even counting the ones out of warranty) are going to say. Oh I just buy a Chevy!

Hey follow Pontiac (Saturn you welcome to join) how about a little revolt. Lets tell GM, GO TO H***! Take as many scalps as you can!

Re: GM Eager To Keep Pontiac/Saturn Customers; 1.6mm To Get Free Oil Change Coupon

GM needs to offer major discount vouchers for current Pontiac and Saturn owners if they choose to go with the current GM brands if they want to retain them.

That is the only real incentive. Give them a few thousand off MSRP or off of the current dealer discounts, GM incentives, etc.
