Re: Edmunds InsideLine: Pontiac Kills Rear-Wheel-Drive G8

Joemac, where are you located? If you're in Northern California I want to do your G8 here:

Yeah. A slew of TV ads with Rick Wagonner & Bob Lutz. They will be on their knees, hands clasped together saying, "Please buy our cars & trucks. Please, please, please, please." At the end they begin to whimper & sob like kids.

They must have changed their name to that years ago.

It's not legal to "do" a car in your state. But, that location would have been great to shoot my '05 MBM GTO.

Re: Edmunds InsideLine: Pontiac Kills Rear-Wheel-Drive G8

The G8 and G6 are the only products in the current Pontiac lineup that are worth buying. What can they be thinking over there??? Keep the G8. Kill the "truck" variant and give us a proper coupe. This isn't rocket science guys. Pontiac is not a econobox brand. Pontiac customers want performance and/or sporty vehicles. The G3 is a joke and the G5 is very long in the tooth. A Cruze variant/replacement can't come soon enough.

When can we order a G8 GXP? Has a base price been announced?

Re: Edmunds InsideLine: Pontiac Kills Rear-Wheel-Drive G8

Nothing being reported about product deaths in this environment shocks me any more, but keep in mind Edmunds doesn't have a real good batting average in their prognostications.

We all know Pontiac as a brand has been pretty much purged by GM and left with rebadges of FWD trash with the exception of the G8 and Solistice. In spite of this they do manage to move quite a few vehicles, but the profit on those sales must be pretty abysmal, or maybe it is more important to keep innocent workers working until the next bonehead move by GM can be made.

I am still convinced Pontiac (in the tri branded dealerships) is still viable with a short list of niche products that meet the demands of folks who want to purchase sporty RWD cars. If the platform mix is done correctly, ala G8 sharing with Holden, the costs can be shared. You can not make all of your product plans based on currency exchange rates. That just doesn't work in heavy industry in a global economy. If you are foolish enough to chase those rates as your priority, you lose your ability to deliver (all together now) CLASS LEADING PRODUCT!
