What brand would GM send us to for the fix?

One would think that a *smart* new trim GM with the core 4 brands would employ a larger support staff of trained professionals in the service bay so that no matter what GM car or truck or suv is brought in, there would be a qualified technician there able to do the job professionally.

To put it another way:
When you figure how many technicians will be "out of work" from all the service departments from the closings of Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, etc dealerships, it would be a very smart move to hire the best of the best to your new Chevy/Caddy/GMC/Buick dealership to have the expertise in-house.

No, the Sierra has a die-hard loyal following.

Envoy is already dead, Canyon and Savana sell in penny-numbers, and the Yukon/Denali family rode the back of the big-SUV boom.

Anyone with the deluded belief that yuppies will be flocking to GMC showrooms to pick up the keys to a new Denali in 2014 — is in for a rude awakening.

The Acadia's only been a mild success and the Terrain's styling is so divisive, it'll either be a hit, or flop miserably. Given GM's track record of late, the latter is more likely than the former. And we can't ignore the fact that the Acadia and Enclave share a showroom, cannibalising each other's sales and the Terrain should have become a Buick product with Buick styling.

GMC only enjoyed anything resembling sales volume from 1995-2005. The rest of the brand's history, it was a bit-player, at best, performing its perfunctory role as purveyor of Chevy trucks to primarily rural BOP dealers. It's completely stupid to think that GMC will be selling 350,000+ vehicles annually by 2014.

I hope that they get enough money in the til to pay off all those dealers, or at the very least find out a way of getting rid of the dealers for cheap while in Bankruptcy...

I want to kill someone, but luckily, I'm home alone. I'll just think that in a year or two, GM will be a happy, thriving company. Many of us are permanently scarred for life due to our favorite brands dying, but we will be happy to see GM live.

right?

Hmm. Should I keep my Sky after the lease is up in July? It wasn't exactly an ultra low volume car but it makes me wonder if it will be worth something. Actually, they could/should just switch the badge on it for a Chevy bowtie. It already looks like a mini Corvette.

Ford, Chrysler(if they survive) will get my business if I want a new car.
If not domestic, I will look to European, then maybe Japan, but not Toyota, Honda or Nissan. More likely Mazda or Subaru IF I go w/a Japanese brand.

!!!!
You Do know Toyota owns Subaru, Right!?!?

the sooner the better for GM as a company .. so does this mean that idea of Saturn bringing in cars from over seas is not going to happen?

Re: BREAKING NEWS: GM To Phase Out Saturn **This Year**

To those of you who are upset by the acceleration of Saturn's demise and the Pontiac annoncement I say would you rather GM limp along with 7 or 8 brands for 2 or 4 more years losing money? It's about time some one force GM to make the deep cuts necessary to get back in the black. If the goverment is willing to finance some or all of these cuts all the more reason to do it now! This should have been done 5 years ago and GM might not be in this mess to begin with.

Sweet Jeebus, they're just cars! Wanting to kill someone because of this? Thankful you're home alone? Permanently scarred? Wow. I sure hope you're using hyperbole!

Yeah, it sucks that GM is doing this, but it's just business.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: GM To Phase Out Saturn **This Year**

I guess my Astra will be a pretty rare (and not in a good way) car. Just one model year for the U.S. That should make getting repairs and parts really fun. Such a shame too, because it's really the most fun car I've ever owned, and I get 29mpg in mixed driving with the manual.

With the potential for a sale of Opel also, the future cost of parts through GM really scares me. Heck it's only been in the last few weeks that I could even buy an oil filter anywhere other than the dealer.

Scary times.

Re: BREAKING NEWS: GM To Phase Out Saturn **This Year**

Its sad to hear this with regard to Saturn and Pontiac, but a long slow death isn't much better. My Saturn dealer is rennovating thier showroom and insisted they aren't going anywhere when I stopped in for service about ten days ago.

And how many times will I hear a sale of Hummer will be completed by... whenever.

Well, at least they're starting to hustle here, having taken Saturn and Pontiac out back for a quick shot to the head.

Does this mean Buick and GMC are safe? Stay tuned.
