GM can go to hell.

I'm done w/them. Unless Buick has a model I want, but unlikely.

Ford, Chrysler(if they survive) will get my business if I want a new car.
If not domestic, I will look to European, then maybe Japan, but not Toyota, Honda or Nissan. More likely Mazda or Subaru IF I go w/a Japanese brand.

Boy, I sure hope so. Heck, if they offered a decent deal on a Malibu LTZ or Cadillac CTS I'd trade it in this evening.

I'm going to wind up servicing at the same dealership where I maintain my Silverado and BMW anyway (Apple Automotive Group), so no big change. In fact, Apple is several miles closer to home than the Saturn dealer.

Not much consolation though.

What will be interesting is if Saturn is picked up by another manufacturer, can we take our Saturns to Saturn delaler after this year and still get warranty coverage? I'm thinking not. Which means we will be at a Chevy shop and repairs could get funky with mechanics who do not know the product. Not that I've needed any repairs yet. And what about recalls?
What brand would GM send us to for the fix?
Not sure what the plan is for warranty, etc. if the Saturn name carries on, but considering that Saturns share all major components with Buick, Pontiac, and Chevy, I don't see a lack of expertise being a problem.

So sad to see them go. Saturn and Pontiac. So much potential there in both brands. =[

I really hope GM can survive. Seems like Henderson is kicking ass up there, so we'll just have to see if their plan works. Glad that the government is funding the close of the brands though, That's must be a huge relief to GM. When Olds closed it costed about 1 Billion. I'm sure these two brands will cost more to close.

*sigh* Maybe one day GM will be able to revive Pontiac.

The new LaCrosse is smokin' hot IMHO.
I'm thinking scrapping Pontiac may free up $$$ to do the Riviera and acceletate a Lucerne replacement. If not, why keep the brand?

How many billions of dollars did GM pour into Saturn? Did it ever turn a profit?

I say that GMC will be gone by no later than 2014.

Was any word given on whether models would be transitioned to other brands?

Bob Lutz famously said of Saturn's total revamp: "If this doesn't work, I'm out of ideas."

Well, it didn't work. Lutz and Saturn are both history. But will anyone left standing at GM learn anything from the failures?

Very sad news but not surprising. Still disappointing after the great product they were finally getting the last few years.

Saturn, RIP...

Not enough to keep them going. The Kappas are in the toilet, the Astra never caught on and the Aura has fallen to 2000 units a month. Their only real bright spot is the Vue. They tried to reinvent Saturn so many times, but it never really worked. Its simply the brand's time.

Believe it or not GMC has a die-hard loyal (yes much like Pontiac) following and a higher volume then those that are being shed.

With all this bad news, this is what I am interested in knowing. There are some good models from these brands that should/could be utilized in a high volume brand like Chevrolet. For instance why would the G8 have to die, just make it the new Impala (yes I know it is much like the Camaro, but the Impala could be reborn with minimal cost).
