Except for the fact that the screen would have to be only 1" or so tall, or that the cubby hole isn't even single DIN sized... or how tacky an aftermarket unit will look installed there, unless a fortune is spent making custom mounting stuff.

Aftermarket gauges, or pick up some OEM HSV ones. There's plenty of retailers online that will do that...and sell you an HSV bodykit while you're at it.

Truly?
At least try the thing before you wipe it. Pretty minor flaw if you like the rest of the car. If you don't like it enough, so be it.

The sad thing is G8s had guages in that spot except you all whinged about atari etc etc, so you got what you wanted.... atari guages removed.

Just out of curiosity has anyone successfully installed an aftermarket in dash navigation system into the G8? If so does it look like it was factory installed or tacky/aftermarket? Would love to see pictures if possible.

Unpossible! The way the control unit for the audio and climate systems is set up prohibits replacement.

That sucks, GM should have just offered the navigation option on this car. It's a slap in the face to have such a big color LCD screen in the car but no way of adding a navigation system. I know it's probably some technical reason why GM couldn't have done it but still.

They didn't because the Aussie nav unit kinda sucks (no touchscreen) and the angle isn't right to meet US standards.

I didn't even know the screen was angled. Too bad GM couldn't of gave the G8 a totally different headunit.

Re: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP Power Bumped to 415hp/415ftlbs

I didn't whine about the "Atari" gauges, I liked them. The blank cubby hole looks like garbage. If they put a lid on it, it'd be alright... but I know I'll end up looking at it with disgust every time I get into the car if I bought it. It's like having a hot wife, only she has a huge mole under one of her eyes.

The 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP performance sedan is done going through the SAE J1349 dyno testing, giving it its official horse power of 415hp, up from the 400 estimates when the car was first shown at the New York International Auto Show. Torque also gets a bump to 415. The G8 GXP will use a larger dispalcement 6.2 LS3 V8 engine from the Corvette, and yes race fans...a six speed manual transmission will be available for the GXP model along with the standard six speed auto trans. The LS3 is the third engine available for the G8 line up starting with the 261hp 3.6 V6 engine, a 360hp 6.0 V8 engine equiped with the gas-saving Active Fuel Management system.

415hp/309kw @ 5900rpm
415ftlbs/563Nm @ 4600rpm

They don't paint the G8 orange for 2009.

My father and I stopped by the Pontiac dealer and took a white one with both options, manual and sunroof, out for about thirty minutes. It's one hell of a car.

I felt just as happy driving it economically as I did givin' it stick. My dad felt there was too much road noise while I heard a few squeaks from the interior trim, but I'd be happy adding some Dynamat and tracking and quelling the squeaks. I'd also add a few gauges where they deleted the originals.
