The 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP performance sedan is done going through the SAE J1349 dyno testing, giving it its official horse power of 415hp, up from the 400 estimates when the car was first shown at the New York International Auto Show. Torque also gets a bump to 415. BigAlsZ28,

This info has me wanting to ask some questions:

Will the GXP have two hp ratings for manual and auto like the Camaro SS?

Will the auto Camaro have 415 hp and not 400hp?

Either way it's good news to hear that the GXP will have 13 more hp.

Thats great. I hope it has a Navigation system, otherwise, it's not for me. I currently have a '05 Grand Prix GXP, that would be the main option I would like on my next car.

Hmm, 300hp 335i or 415hp GXP for less money?

I can hardly wait to get more info on this car. Good to hear of the HP bump. I was wondering how much GM was going to detune the LS3 considering it seems to make wildly different HP numbers depending on application.

Sounds promising. But I've yet to see a demand for the G8. I can count on one hand the number of G8s I've seen running around town since it's release. I see more sitting on the lots then on the roads.

Not looking good. Also I haven't seen many commercials either. But I can't turn the channell without seeing a Malibu/Silverado commercial.

To answer both questions, I dont think so since the GXP will not have the L99, only the LS3 in both models. Remember that the Camaro SS auto will get the L99, not the LS3. The L99 will be a AFM'ed version of the LS3.

I guess it depends on where your located. I've seen alot of G8's around here. Also the G8 is available at a rental car agency so I don't know if i'm seeing fleet models or not.

I think the longer they wait for pricing this car the greater chance that we won't see the price over 40k after GG tax.

The auto Camaro will be paired with a different, 400hp small block (L99), which has a different cam and AFM, as well as more economy-tuned ECM.

I'm going to have a hard time in 2011/2012, trying to decide between an LS3 G8 and an LS3 Camaro.

Re: 2009 Pontiac G8 GXP Power Bumped to 415hp/415ftlbs

G8 sold almost 2,000 last month, meaning it's on target to exceed 20,000 for a full year. GM indicated 20-30K. So add the GXP and the ST and it may straddle those figures. The G8 should soon be getting the DI V6 which should pick numbers up there a bit where they've been a little slow.

The HSV R8 Clubsport version in Oz gets 317Kw or 425 hp from the LS3 but that seems mainly due to tubular headers. The G8 GXP will get the same power auto or manual because there is no cylinder deactivation like the auto Camaro is to get. Manual Camaro will basically have this same motor, so should get similar (415hp) power ratings depending on final tune and equipment.

Will it have an in-dash nav system as an option?

I'm in the Atlanta metro area. I've seen only four on the road.

Camaro SS manual will have 422hp. To drop down hp to the 415 would be horrible. Camaro's exhaust tuning will be MUCH different then the Holden units.
