I have a 3100 LG8 V6 in my car so I don't see that happening anytime soon. Anyway GM should have put in a Manual and more power in this model

With a few updates the 3.9L V6 could be putting out more horsepower than the 3.6L as well as significantly more torque.
Yeah like a 4 valve head. :rolls eyes:

I'd like to see this as well, but part of the trouble is that dealers will order damn few of them, unless, like the Cobalt or G5 XFE, it has something unique to offer, like class leading fuel economy. The other thing is that with a manual, they will rarely order them well equipped, often selling them as loss leaders, or ad cars.

The HV 3.9 needs to go. It's thirsty, course, and generally inefficient.

The G6 with the 3.9L and 4-Speed is rated at 15 city / 22 highway and is good for 222 HP / 238 lb-ft. The G6 with the HF 3.6L and 6-speed is rated at 17 city / 26 highway and is good for 252 HP / 251 lb-ft.

To put this in contrast, the relatively inefficient 4.6L 3-valve modular V8 that is in the Mustang yields 300 HP / 320 lb-ft. With the 5-speed auto trans, it's rated at the exact same 15 city / 22 highway as the HV 3.9L in the G6. Heck, even the L76 6.0L V8 beast in the G8 GT is rated at 15 city / 24 highway while putting out 362 HP / 391 lb-ft.

So what does the HV 3.9L get you? V8 fuel economy without V8 power and V8 noise! Doesn't sound like a good trade-off to me.

Re: 2009.5 Brings 4-Cylinder G6 Coupe

The G6 coupe should have had this from the start along with a 6 speed manual as std equipment. The convertible badly needs to lose the 3.9 liter V6 which seems to lose HP and mileage every year. I mean 222 HP and 15/22 MPG is almost comical in todays market. And the worst part is the 3.6/6 speed auto gets better mileage at 17/26, has 30 more HP at 252 and is more refined to boot. As for the coupes styling, I think Pontiac went too far with the clean sides crap that every company is hammering down our throats today. Eliminating the bodyside molding only exaggerates this with way too much blank plain sheetmetal from the door back. I think that a character line or subtle ground effect would also help spice this car up. As it is it's way too plain looking for a sporty car. Thankfully the sedan still has a molding as an option and doesn't look so strange. I also wish GM would pair the 3500 with the 6 speed automatic in the GT at least. They did this with the Saturn Vue so why nothing else? The 3500, even when paired with the old 4 speed auto, gets very good mileage and the 6 speed would only compliment this.

Now if the JUST OFFERED A STICK SHIFT, I'd go and buy one. I guess a boy can only dream...
OMG SERIOUSLY GM WTH!??!?!?!?!

It would then compete with the Accord coupe which you can get with stick(I4and v6)

The 3.9L/4-speed in the GT convertible is tired and thirsty - it's not even available in the coupe and sedan.
Why does GM even make this engine or have it available in the G6 when they have the 3.6 liter V6. GM Should have the same engines in the G6 as it does in the Aura and Malibu. I would have the 2.4 and 3.6 liter engines with DI options on both. I would also drop the mild hybrid for a 2-mode one for the 2.4.

This is a major problem at GM which drives me nuts. They have the hardware in some vehicles but not in others. For example, they have a DI 3.0 and 3.6 now, how come you can't get one in the Epsilons, meanwhile the competitors vehicles (Camcords, Mazda 6's, Altimas) have more HP in there cars Furthermore, I bet they don't put the 2.4 DI engine in the Epsilons either. GM dump the 3.5 and 3.9 liter OHV engines !!!!!!!! My other gripe with the Epsilons is the lack of a rear center armrest and the Navigation issue which has been beaten to death.
