1984 Olds Firenza: If you're a woman under 35, this car's for you!

A mild facelift with a more prominent front bumper highlighted the 1984 changes to Oldsmobile’s year old Firenza J-car line, but sales were not impressive for the class at 82,475. Also new was the sporty “Euro-Style” ES, a $400optionpackagefor both the base and LX four door notchbacks.

    Indeed

These Firenza just reminds me of that Dirty Harry sequel with the Firenza-driving broad who hunts down people and shoots them in the nuts. It was like the worst possible marketing move since Daimler gave Hitler a Mercedes

Least the Skyhawk used the better dashboard that the J2000 and Firenza had and didn't use the Cavalier dashboard that the Cimarron had..."wtf come on guys"

The Pontiac used the Cavalier (and Cimarron) dashboard. Admittedly I did like the Cavalier Type 10/RS/Z24 dashboard. But yeah, sharing the dash with the cheapest version they rebadged the Cimarron from was adding insult to injury.

Though I usually liked the Oldsmobile versions best, the Firenza was probably the version of the J-body I liked the least (maybe ahead of Cimarron). But then, I'm not a woman under 35 so that could be why.

I suspect the only rationale behind this car was "Olds needs a J-body".

standard centre console and standard cut-pile on the doors and load area of coupe-styled Hatch back models really makes up for the difference compared to those "IMPORT" models
as the CIVIC was NEW for 84 and the golf II was new for 83

I kind of love the attention given to such a trivial feature. A strip of cut-pile carpeting on the bottom of the door panel. Who the hell cares?

Exactly, it may not have made much of a diff, but at least it would have showed they used the dash of the more upscale sibling of platform. They needed a better outside look like the final cimmaron. Too little too late........

The Cimarron did actually have very attractive tuck and roll seats. That's about the only place they spent any money on it.

OMG, in 1992 I bought my ex wife a 1982 Firenza. It was the biggest piece of junk I have ever had the displeasure of working on. And I actually LIKE J-Bodies! It had the absolute worst carburetor GM ever made.

Oldsmobile, Buick, and Cadillac should never have had these cars. That's what was wrong with GM in the '80s.
    1989 GMC Suburban (5.7 liter)- 220k miles (3rd owner) - SOLD
    1968 Buick Skylark (350 Buick)- 71k miles (2nd owner)
    1972 Chevrolet Corvette (350 LT-1) - 72k miles (3rd owner)
    2001 Chevrolet Tahoe LS (5.3 liter) - 102k miles (3rd owner)

Buick - "Dedicated to the Free Spirit in just about everyone."

The original 1.8 OHV carbureted J-body engine showed how little GM took the foreign car brigade seriously in 1982. It was an under powered, limited power band crude little mess that made terrible sounds and suffered lots of driveability quirks in the process.
