Re: Z/28 Back On?
For those of us who think the Z/28 should be something a bit lighter and more in keeping with the original's big power in a small motor package, GM has built what we want -- for Jay Leno.
See SEMA Camaro with a twin-turbo, 425 hp 3.6 v6 and a really nice styling package. Twist the boost to a bit more than the conservative 7 psi and voila -- instant Z/28! See http://www.autoblog.com/2009/11/03/s...inst-ecoboost/ |

Re: Z/28 Back On?
Do we have any idea at all what the new Z28 is going to cost?

Re: Z/28 Back On?
Seeing that some dealers around here are asking almost $50K for loaded SS models, I can only imagine the dealer markups that are going to be put on any Z28 that may come out...we could be looking at a $70K Camaro.

A quick search on google and I can easily find that the GT500 is putting up much better numbers in the 1/4 mile than the camaro SS. As per Motortrend: 12.7 sec @ 118.1 mph *Traction limited by low ambient and track temperatures. -Motortrend 12.9 sec (no mph given) -Car and Driver 11.78 sec @ ~119 mph -Muscle Mustang and Fast Fords 12.6 sec (no mph given) -Popular Mechanics For comparison, here is the Camaro SS: 13.0 sec @ 111 mph -Popular Mechanics 13.0 sec @ 111 mph -Car and Driver 13.0 sec @ 111.1 mph -Road and Track While the camaro is pretty consistant at low 13's (I'm sure high 12's are doable.) The GT500 is capable of high 11's in its current form! Plus, your whole rant is really off the deepend anyway since those who are debating with you aren't even focused on 1/4 mile times, they were more concerned with how the car would handle. I personally have no problem with the Z/28 as it is rumored to be coming but I can see why others might be bothered by the excess weight. The GT500 received similar criticism albeit much more harshly. |

Re: Z/28 Back On?
I don't see how 12.9 vs 13.0 et is MUCH BETTER? 12.7 vs 13.0? Zero to 60 times.. that I've seen roll at 4.5 seconds for the fast ford..
Its fast..don't get me wrong...I just don't see the launch benefit of the live axle with street tires that motivated ford to keep it. (maybe its excellent for drag radials since it doesn't break easily?) I really do like the new mustang.. I liked the old mustang.. Do I prefer GM products? yes...and thats why I'm on this site. I'd personally order up a 31 grand camaro SS anyday of the week. (I don't care about the other interior options etc) and when I stopped by a ford dealer and saw a lot of 49 to 51 grand Mustang supercharged vehicles.. Thats a lot of dough.. I'm sure its worth every penny but for my hard earned cash...I'd buy the camaro SS stripped for 31 g's and if the Camaro Z/28 was available....I'd probably do the same thing. Either way...having a choice of the z/28, sS , Ford GT500 or the upcoming ford Mustang GT is what its all about... Pick your poison and enjoy! Thats the kicker...thas all that matters... Get the hot rod that you like! We're lucky we have the choices. Quote:

Is 11.78 vs 13.0 much faster? Just a side note, I believe the camaro has gone 12.8 as its fastest time from actual owners while I think the Gt500 has gone 12.0 (not sure) with its owners. Plus, you are fixated on 0-60 times when the traps give a better indication of which car is faster. 111 mph vs 117 mph is pretty significant. |

Re: Z/28 Back On?
How about Mustang GT vs. Camaro SS performance ?? That is the current real world comparison. GT-500 is in C6 Vette territory costwise. We'll know more when the Z28 approaches reality, but I'd bet on the Camaro Z28 being a better package. Tuner Camaros like Lingenfelter and Hennesey builds are closer to the GT500's market and they show how quickly any performance gap can be erased.
