Although somewhat expected for the Volt given the plant shutdown, pretty big dropoff from last month where it had almost 3K sales. It should be interesting to see the December numbers and how the shutdown continues to affect sales.

For 2012, the volt has recorded 11 months of sales moving 20,828 units YTD. The PIP has recorded 9 months of sales (and limited availability in some markets) moving 11,368 units.

I certainly buy the inventory issue. Last month (thanksgiving to be exact) we visited a dealership to drive a Volt for my father in law. They had one in stock and it was a fully loaded model and this was a LARGE dealer. The guy that showed us the Volt was the ordering manager and he told us that they have been getting 2-3 a month for the last 5-6 months and generally sell them in a couple weeks.

My local dealership has 1 Volt. Another dealership close by has zero. Another one about 30 minutes away has zero. Earlier on in the summer inventory was hovering around 10 in my town. Now, 1. Last month they made a little over 1700 Volts.

Yup here is the story from detroit news that has some additional inventory data:

    http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2...#ixzz2E6vAPxk3

Don Johnson, U.S. vice president of Chevrolet sales and service, attributed the fall in Volt sales from its record-setting tally in October as an inventory issue, felt particularly hard in California.

"Dealers are just clamoring for more," he said of the California market, where GM sells about 34 percent of Volts and where it recently had just an eight-day supply of the vehicle. Inventory is now up to 23 days for California and about 60 days for U.S. supply, which Johnson described as "ideal."
So December should be better than November. But I doubt we will see numbers as good as October yet.

They've been limited to 15 states through Thanksgiving. Here in Minnesota, the first just arrived last week. In CA, they the base model selling for $32k is pretty much no where to be found. That's a good endorsement for the pricepoint of $30k the automakers have been aiming for.

The cheap Volt leases ended before the factory shutdown thus sales were bound to decline in November for multiple reasons.

I like how they try and spin the limited production to excess demand. They don't mention they are way short of their 45k annual sales goal. I am all for the Volt and would love to have one, but the spin makes it look desperate. Only having them on the lot for a few days/week is almost worse than too long because they are losing sales and driving up per unit costs.

There are still offers of a $299 lease but its a low mileage lease and you have to have insane credit to qualify for it. However, there is $2,749 due at lease signing.

Its almost as if GM doesn't want to (or can't) sell more!?

Remember earlier in the year, when they kept slowing/idling the plant - we were thinking that it was purposely to bring 2012 MY inventory down, because something big was going to be in/on the 2013?

This time they shut the plant down for a month, to tool-up for the Impala, on the heels of the CA sales increases.

It was also to upgrade the plant to install the voltec 1.3 hardware so they can build more of those CA Volts.

    Can't they multi-task!?

Its not like the plant is running 3 shifts, they should have been able to do a lot of the Impala prep-work while the lines were running and/or during 2nd/3rd shift when the plant isn't running.

I still say they shut-down for a month, because they wanted to, not because they had too.

You really believe that dontchya? The Volt was conceived and engineering largely in place while W was in orrific and the $7,500 tax thingy was signed into law by W for the purposes of bringing cars like the Volt and Leaf et al to market.
