Re: VIDEO: Chevy Volt Durability Testing (rough road conditions)
Is it me, or do those "potholes" look a bit on the easy side of actual Detroit potholes?

Re: VIDEO: Chevy Volt Durability Testing (rough road conditions)
Good effort, but if those are the toughest conditions they can come up with in terms of bad road surface they should just quit.
Proper pothole: http://soferul.files.wordpress.com/2...ul-eroilor.jpg Proper bad road: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_3rSqXI4I8S.../PICT00971.jpg Plenty of those here in Romania... Last edited by XenoRad : 11-07-2009 at 07:04 PM. |

So how many potholes in your town have angles? The potholes we see are not so forgiving!

Re: VIDEO: Chevy Volt Durability Testing (rough road conditions)
This would explain why my Aura XR hits a pot hole and the whole car gets unnerved with juddering.
Pot holes don't have an entrance and exit plane. |

Re: VIDEO: Chevy Volt Durability Testing (rough road conditions)
You all are getting really carried away with this.
GM tests all of their vehicles under very severe conditions, far worse than what is seen in these videos. This video is just an example of some the standardized work they do to "shake-down" a prototype vehicle. The purpose of this video is not to show how severe their tests are. It is just another video in the series to keep the "internet crowd" following the Volt progress.

Re: VIDEO: Chevy Volt Durability Testing (rough road conditions)
geez, its ment for the average driver, not everybody drives on rougher roads everyday, and some people have worse, therefore this is he average. And its probably only a starting point. I'm pretty confident..almost positive, in saying there are more severe test runs after they pass these

Re: VIDEO: Chevy Volt Durability Testing (rough road conditions)
They want potholes they should do some testing in Saskatoon after a cold winter, before the road patching crews get to work. And they should bring their wheel alignment tools along with them. For the sake of consistent methodology I do understand why they use the surfaces they do. At least they're sweating the details. Volt must be perfect, if they ever get the damn thing into showrooms.

Re: VIDEO: Chevy Volt Durability Testing (rough road conditions)
He did say they were designed potholes, not random. The ramps may be part of the design so the impact to the suspension is similar to a typical broken hole in the road but is less likely to damage the tire itself. It would be difficult to do pot hole testing if you keep damaging the rims and tires.

Re: VIDEO: Chevy Volt Durability Testing (rough road conditions)
GM should work with Jeep to build a "trail rated" Volt.
Kidding. Don't send hate mail. Thanks.

Re: VIDEO: Chevy Volt Durability Testing (rough road conditions)
I will admit the video doesn't make it look nearly as bad as it realy is. From inside the car on either the Belgian Blocks or Pot Holes it is VERRRRRY severe. You would probably hit your head on the Pot Hole if not buckled in. And yes, as he describes, the Pot Hole event you see is designed to provide a measured amount of damage.............so great that some other OEMs (European, cough, cough) think GMs Pot Hole is an accident and shouldn't be included in testing.
