Re: Traverse enters crowded field

The Traverse looks really sharp on the road. I live in Spring Hill and have seen a white one 7 or 8 times (or maybe it's 7 or 8 different white ones?) and a gray one. Actually, a white one just drove past my house a few minutes ago! Except for those kinda too small taillights, it looks hot!!!

Re: Traverse enters crowded field

I love my Trailblazer. Size and engine power is right (I-6).
Ive never TOWED something behind me- but I do use that 2 inch receiver.
Bike and cargo rack have been used ALOT.
Ive carried stuff on top, inside (passengers and cargo) and used the hitch rack all at the same time.
I will soon hit 127,000 miles on my 03 Trailblazer. I probably will not get another TB.... simply because its still the same exterior design.
But I am really looking at the Traverse. I will pass on the 1st year for the bugs, and put another 20,000 miles on the TB- and so will most likely order a 2010.
But its size- passenger space- and the 2 inch receiver that comes with the TOW package are a big draw to me. Im single now- yet find myself carrying my gf dogs and mine all the time. I mean I really use my Trailblazer for the space it affords.
Once I marry (probably in the next year or so) I know I will really use the space.....
And probably be towing some small items as the family grows.
The Toyota Highlander---- cannot exceed 45 MPH while towing....
The Traverse will have to fill in for my TB.
The following is somewhere in the Sonoran Desert in mexico.

Good question, here is the link to the thread that I started that took the 27 MPG number from a business week article. The article said Saturn was making an advertisement saying the 09 Outlook was rated 27 MPG Highway.

Quote from the Business Week Article:

"There is also an image of the Outlook SUV sprouting a sail on its roof and a graphic that shows 27 mpg on highway for the seven-seater. "Rethink Big" is the headline. The ads run in such magazines as Marie Claire, Entertainment Weekly, and Fast Company, with high readership among women between ages 20 and 40."

Re: Traverse enters crowded field

Its crowded for GM, but when Toyota brings a new crossover or if Honda brings out a new Pilot, no mention.
Im getting sick of the doom and gloom again....

The new face of Chevrolet is doing pretty well. The new Malibu, Cobalt and the newest crossover is starting to show the new face of Chevy.

Re: Traverse enters crowded field

I love the traverse, and the others on the lambdas, but I continue to be awestruck by the strategic blunder GM planned by releasing the Traverse not only last, but significantly behind the others. Giving your flagship and best selling brand the new product last is beyond short sighted.

Re: Traverse enters crowded field

When GM builds a good product, the press will generally praise it. This article is no exception.

I do like the Traverse and hope is does well, even if I disagree with there being four versions of Lambda. But that disagreement rests mostly with two versions being nearly identical in exterior design.

I know GM still wants America to buy giant vehicles, (SUVs -> Xovers) but, if Saturn can sell so many Vues, imagine how many Chevy would sell.
First, good for Saturn... Maybe this means if you don't sell the same product at every division you can still sell a lot of vehicles... People like the Vue because it is a smaller suv and it works with Saturn image. A better fit then the Outlook for sure.

Second, I have to agree. Although IMO there are too many Lambda clones Chevy should not have had to wait this long. I'd understand if GM wanted to introduce a higher end model first but this seems poorly planned.

I think the original intention was to keep the Lambda SUVs to only 3. There was talk of a Lambda minivan that Chevy and another division were to get (GMC was possibly the other division), that was killed some time ago.

I think the Outlook and Acadia are too close to each other is content and price and one needs to go. Saturn never should ahve gotten it and the Zafira should have come here instead, really. And why did the Saturn get the more truck-like squared off wheel wells and GMC got the rounded ones? I think there was enough differentiation between them styling-wise, but GM doesn't need both of them. Rumor is the Zafira will eventually replace the Outlook, but it should have simply replaced the Relay. The Traverse needs to start a little cheaper too as others have stated.

Re: Traverse enters crowded field

The Outlook has been in the works to get killed for a while, now the Acadia is going to get cut as well so there won't be as many Lambda's. It makes sense for GM to make it for Chevrolet, it's GM's largest brand and it really needed a mainstream CUV. Espessially considering the situation with people moving out of BOF SUV's, the move makes sense. It will take the place as the high volume of the Lambda's like the Outlook was supposed to. Look how well the Acadia and Enclave have done. It's going to sell very well! That's a prediction too.
