Re: Transformers Mystery Car Is The Corvette Centennial Concept!
hopefully SOME design cues from this concept will make it on the next Corvette. This thing is wild... obviously too over the top for actual production but still awesome!

Re: Transformers Mystery Car Is The Corvette Centennial Concept!
Gee, ya think they could actually, naaaahh. It would be five years from now and the final product would like a lowered Aztek based on a leftover mini-van chasis. They can't even get the Camaro on the showroom floor. Would be nice though. Maybe if GM goes bankrupt, another company can buy the rights to their designs.

Awesome looking car, I cant wait to see what the production C7 looks like, but I honestly love the clean lines of the C6 and not having the pop up headlights.

Not to poop the party or anything, but I'm glad this isn't the C7. It's too over the top and just leaves me cold. I'm willing to wager the real C7 will look better.

The interior itself is fine, but I would agree that the Corvette needs better seats (might I suggest having Holden do them - they have the best product out there with the GTO/Monaro seats). But besides the seats, most "supercar" manufacturers can only dream of having a product this good - and they charge at least twice the price!

If a mid-engine design is better, use it! But I don't really see how it would be better. AWD would certainly improve traction and handling. How could that be bad? The only thing keeping that out would be the weight penalty.

Re: Transformers Mystery Car Is The Corvette Centennial Concept!
Being a lover and fanatic of Corvettes, I do not like the front and rear styling. Way too overdone.
The C7 will not take heavy queues from this concept as far as nose and tail designs are concerned, the aerodynamics would not be optimal with a design such as this. Plus Chevy keeps the Corvette more tame looking on purpose in an attempt to appeal to a larger market. The Corvette does not need to be mid-engined. They have achieved near perfect front/rear balance in the current layout which would be the only reason for them to switch. I could see them moving to AWD at some point in order to enable the power to be put to the ground better. I would not be put off if they added AWD at all. If they want to make a Mid-engined car, make it a Cadillac.

Re: Transformers Mystery Car Is The Corvette Centennial Concept!
Even if it is just a design study, there are a few things here that are very promising.
First, ever since GM extended the Corvette's wheelbase, they've seemed to struggle a bit in getting the proportions exactly right ... they've lost a bit of the "coiled spring" tension of the C3 cars. This design study appears to have a fairly long wheel base, but the proportions are spot on ... it looks a lot more "in motion while sitting still" than the current car. Second, the move away from pop-up headlights was a good move, but the current car's treatment is a bit generic (look at the Vette and the Viper side by side!). This design study has the headlighted integrated in the front fenders in a way that's new but still says "Corvette." Lastly, the C5 had great curves, but seemed a little soft looking; the C6 is far more knife edged, but lacks some of the "sexiness" of the curvier C3 and C5. This design study seems to combine the best of both worlds. Yes, it's too extreme (it's a design study, it is supposed to be). But, when you see what the designers are doing with proportions, surface language and details, it looks like GM designers are well on their way to evolving the Corvette look for the next car. |

Re: Transformers Mystery Car Is The Corvette Centennial Concept!
Mid Engine Corvette would be called "Fiero"
This concept isn't that appealing to me. I'm tired of reusing basic C3 elements in the design. I love the early C3 cars, but GM has stuck to the basic design philosophy since 1968 for the Vette.
