Spied: First Chevrolet Volt test mule

It might not look like much, but this is the first ever test mule for the 2011 Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid. General Motors will be testing several of these Malibu-based vehicles throughout the summer months. Eventually — possibly as late as next year — GM will begin testing prototypes with the Volt's actual finished body. For now, the prototypes are strictly a mechanical testbed.

Lmao, that's awesome. It will be funny to look back on this and say, this is how the Chevy Volt started out.

I will gladly donate my '07 Malibu to GM for use as a Volt test mule in return for a '09 Malibu.

Funny. It looks just like a previous generation Malibu to me.

Great idea! But $40,000 ?! From the sound of the size of it you could have your choice of buying $20,000 worth of gas or two cars. Maybe there will be good leases or tax breaks?

Definitely tax breaks, maybe more than the prius's. I heard they'd have some pretty attractive leases as well if you wanted to go down that road.

The Volt has a wider track than the previous gen Malibu. This will be my next car if they sell vs lease them and the price is under 35K.

The sad part is that some toyota fanboys are thinking exactly this.

Re: Spied: First Chevrolet Volt test mule

Did anyone else see the picture of the Volt on that page, the one where someone is unmasking it like the CTS?

I didn't see it before and it looked interesting, much more mocho than the Prius.

Lutz said GM is holding strong to its November 2010 launch date. He said management is "holding the team's feet to the fire" to meet this goal. When individuals on the Volt project get pessimistic, the ex-Marine said he asks a simple question — "What is there about November 2010 that you don't understand?"
I think I have a man crush on Bob. What a great quote!
