Retail Chevrolet Caprice being considered by GM?

www.GMreinvention.com

Quote:
Q:Dear Mr. Henderson, as I read today, the Chevy Caprice (Holden Caprice in AUS) will come up as Police car. How does it make economic sense to offer a certain model just to an authority and not to the public?

A:There is substantial demand from the public service sector for a RWD sedan that, if done correctly, makes a lot of sense. As for a RWD sedan for the retail sector, we continue our market evaluation. -Brent Dewar, GM Vice President, Chevrolet

Q:Dear Fritz, I just read on canadiandriver.com about GM's plans for a new Caprice police car. Please, for the sake of humanity, make a version available to the public with a direct injection 5.3L and 6-speed auto. A station wagon would be appreciated, too.

A:Richard, thanks for your comments. We continue to receive many requests for a RWD Performance Sedan and will continue our market evolution. STAY TUNED! -Brent Dewar, GM Vice President, Chevrolet

To me that means more of a RWD Impala or Bel Air than making the Caprice retail.

I'm hoping they DON'T go with a tired old push rod 60 degree V8 please.

Re: Retail Chevrolet Caprice being considered by GM?

I hope Chevy keeps the next all-new Impala as a FWD so it can maintain it's sales lead, and that they offer a civilian version of this new RWD Caprice squad car. It should be good for 25,000-30,000 extra sales, and it would give Chevy an unmatched one-two punch in the fullsize family car market! Then with the Malibu, Silvy crew cabs, that Traverse thing, and the Tahoe, Chevy could rule the family car market once more like it did from the 50s to the 80s!

Re: Retail Chevrolet Caprice being considered by GM?

Stay tuned is the most optimistic tone I've heard from a GM exec regarding the Caprice in a while. Whenever they say stay tuned that means something good is more than likely to be coming. That's just what I've noticed in my few months of visiting that site.

Yeah, I hope they go with the LS-family of pushrod V8s which are 90degrees and hardly tired.

We have already been told the next generation Impala will be FWD. I would keep an eye on Buick and Cadillac.

It's off. It's on again. It's off. It's on again. It's off.

Oh look, the car that was said not to return for public retail is being considered again.

It's not that I mind that they want to introduce it to GM NA but either do it or don't. Enough contemplating!

Re: Retail Chevrolet Caprice being considered by GM?

Exactly how much larger is the Caprice Vs the G8? I think the G8 is plenty large enough for a performance sedan, and the basic formula worked well, entry level V6, with LS V8 options. If they simply re-badged the latest VE commodores like they did for Pontiac (and make them fit NA specs) I, like many others, would be pleased with that; not something larger. As for direct injection V8's and whatnot, I don't think we will see any new V8's debut in anything but the Corvette first, but who knows!

Re: Retail Chevrolet Caprice being considered by GM?

We've been getting teased by the prospect of Zeta sedans since the 300C became a hit. They gave us a taste with the G8 and then took it away.

But, I think they'd have to sell it as a Buick or Cadillac to get the profit they need to justify its existence.

In my hope of hopes, I want Buick to come out with a car that does the 1955-1957 Buicks justice. And I want it built in the U.S.

I sure hope this happens, but this back and forth on whether or not it will be built is killing me.

If it happens ? great...if not....Dodge has the new charger to purchase! Supposedly the upcoming revamped Charger is a 6.4 liter winner!
