Re: Report: GM Working On Cruze XFE? Target Is 44mpg Highway
Maybe by the time the Boeing 787 finally flies.

Which is an "about face" when compared to what the General usually does.

Smart that they're going to offer the XFE with an automatic (if true). That will potentially generate a lot more sales than a manual-only model.

Once again the 1.8L is mentioned as the base engine. Once again, GM will fail if that crappy engine is the base engine here in NA. |

XFE is such a lame badge - they should just make the standard Cruze get 44 mpg

You know what would be brilliant? Put the BAS mild hybrid system into the Cruze XFE. Don't even bother calling it a hybrid. Just take the 2-3 mpg boost they can probably get out of it and see if consumers go for it. It would really make the Cruz stand out.

So with all of this discussion why has no one yet mentioned a Diesel Powertrain yet? I'd be interested in a 1.5T -2.0T and a 6 speed automatic or 6 speed manual. Get me 150hp and as close to 300lb-ft of torque as you can.

Re: Report: GM Working On Cruze XFE? Target Is 44mpg Highway
i would love the 2.2 to be the base engine, and the 1.4 turbo be the fuel economy special. if it really does get 44 mpg highway i would definitely consider it for my next car. at the same time i think the cruze or buick astra needs a version of the 260hp ecotec turbo in case i want to drive fast too.

Quote:
"according to the European standards, it's rated at 7,8 l/100 Km in the urban cycle and 4,8 l/100 Km in the extra urban cycle. So I estimate the equivalent to 30 MPG City and 39 MPG Highway according to the EPA." Also, those ratings are with a manual, but the 6-speed automatic is in the Astra 1.4T in Europe, here's what I said about this: "Also, I've downloaded the brochure from Opel's german site. The Astra 1.4 Turbo also comes with a 6-speed transmission. The European fuel economy ratings for it are 9,7 l/100 Km Urban and 5,5 l/100 Km Extra-Urban. It seems a lot worse than it is, the European test seems harder on traditional automatics. By comparison with the Astra automatic 1.8L we got here, I estimate around 26 MPG City, 34 MPG Highway. So for people hoping the Cruze gets more than 40 MPG, apparently it may get 40 in manual form, but the automatic seems to take quite a beating on that front." Now, European tastes are different than American tastes, so maybe the automatic Cruze will be tuned more for fuel economy to the sacrifice of performance than the European Astra. As to the 1.8L, I estimate 25/35 for the manual and 24/33 for the automatic based on the Cruze's ratings in Europe. Last edited by Kchoz : 10-30-2009 at 01:33 AM. |
