Re: Production Camaro Assemblyline pictures!!!
Who said it was a "guy"? Ha, ha!
Those pics were taken over the Victoria Day holiday weekend. Hence nobody there except the camera person. This means it could have only been a) manager, b) union boss, c) outside contractor (robots) od d) security. Or it could have just been orchestrated by GM as free advertising. There is nothing in the car we haven't seen before. The only thing that someone might get in **** for are pics of the robots/ assemply area. It is a competitive industry. |

Re: Production Camaro Assemblyline pictures!!!
Almost a perfect body-in-white for racing... Tack in a couple doors, some windows, front fenders, and I'm sure we could build the rest
... Oh, and I'm still clueless to how this guy got these photos... Plus, having your name plastered all over the internet, including an in depth page of yourself, and on your Facebook profile, is a surefire way to get boned by the law... Oh well! edit: apparently the pics were 'had' sometime on the Saturday Last edited by JT87 : 05-22-2008 at 12:02 AM. |

Re: Production Camaro Assemblyline pictures!!!
I recently retired from Oshawa and I can tell you there are cameras all over the place. On my job I had a digital camera with me at all times and I often passed line workers with thier personal phones at their work station. I would usually tell them to turn them off during work hours but thats it. By the way if they are looking for the culpret these pictures were taken between shifts or on the weekend, likley by a member of the cleaning staff or an engineer.

Re: Production Camaro Assemblyline pictures!!!
Looks eerie almost to me.
They should try exporting it since people aren't buying cars like they used to thanks to our recession.

The V8 probably wont be rated much less, but those buying the V8 want performance over gas mileage...same as EVO/STi/350z/135i/335i/Mustang/Genesis buyers. If gas prices are at the point where a 19/27 mpg car cost to much to fuel...we'll all have to drive < 140hp 4 bangers....no more Civic Si, Mazdaspeed 3, Cobalt SS, V6 Camry/Accord/Malibu/Altima, etc.

Re: Production Camaro Assemblyline pictures!!!
I figured that a Camaro with the DI 3.6 could do about 18/27mpg pretty good. That would be a 300hp V6 car that got better gas milage then just about every car in its class.
V8 will probably rank in at 16/24 with the LS3.

Buying a car as a "second" vehicle because of the gas mileage makes no sense... How long would would take for your primary vehicle's gas mileage to make up for the $20-$30k or so you will spend to buy a new Camaro? Even having a car that gets double the gas mileage, ie: 40 MPG over one that gets 20 MPG will still only save about $1200 per year. (assuming both cars are driven 12,000 miles per year, have ~15 Gallon gas tanks, and gas is at $4/Gallon) That means it would take roughly 20 years for you to make up for the cost of buying a $25k second vehicle. Buying a $12,500 car would take 10 years to make up for, a $6250 car would take 5 years, and a $3125 car 2.5 years. How long does the average person keep a car? Having only one car that gets bad gas mileage is better than having two, regardless of how good thier mileage is- it still takes too long to make up for the initial investment ...unless you buy a $500 beater i guess.
