If they build a real off road silverado raptor fighter it better look the part too, different front end and all like Ford differentiates the svt raptor from the f-150. The Ford svt raptor is an awesome truck.
Like others on here I would rather see a rcsb silverado ss or Sierra GT with awd
I know this has been a rumor for a while, but I asked about this part of the video weeks ago:
2014 Silverado with beadlocks?
We all know Ford has done a stellar job of marketing this truck. Regardless of all the specifics of the specs an individual wants, there is a "cool factor" that helps these sell. Say what you want, people are buying them and at a clip that is pretty solid. Think about this: Ford sold in the neighborhood of 13,000 '12 Raptors. Chevrolet sold just under 12,000 '12 Vettes. Both start at a fairly close base price, albeit options take the Vette sky high quick. Cost of full-line development is much higher to recoup costs and Ford only had to work up pieces to the F150. "Cool factor" sells Vette just like it does Raptor. Sounds like a good plan to sell for profit.
I have been a huge GM guy my whole life, but Raptor is a pretty sweet package if you're looking for something different on the streets or trails. I could care less if someone wants to cruise the mall or take it to a club parking lot as long as their writing GM checks then so be it. Please make a more serious off-roader GM...checks are waiting.
Why a loss of marketshare? My sister's fiancé was all about the F-series and told everyone how badly the Silverado sucks with this last generation. He's now looking at holding off on his purchase of a King Ranch if the High Country strikes his fancy. His brother was looking at another F-series, too. He's waiting on a new Denali.
So, those conquests would seem to be a gain in marketshare versus Ford.
Definitely. The Raptor was my entry into the world of pickup trucks. I love it. Its looks drew me in.
Yes to both.
A fan of the finest things in life.
While not a true Raptor fighter I would love to see a diesel HD off road package like the All-terrain. I also wish they would have followed it's design cues a bit closer with the new trucks. The All-terrain was very well received, the new trucks reception has been so so at best.
If they do make a Raptor competitor it needs to be a serious attempt. Stickers, off road tires and a few skid plates will not cut it.

Of course, that is probably where 70% of the purchases come from, suburban dads who want to look cool, and I might be low-balling it...
I read an article a few years ago talking about the Rubicon from some Jeep rep, he said over 50% of the sales were to box checkers, those that bought it purely for status and looks.

Judging from the video - if that is the actual ZR2 - only thing that it will it give a serious run for it's money is the Z71 Silverado. I know, I know, waaay too early to judge, but just going off what we can see so far. I think we are reading way too much into it too. I don't think the truck in the video is anything more than a regular Silverado/Sierra, but with bead locks to test the suspension without ripping the tires off the wheels; nothing more.
What sets the Raptor seriously apart from the other F150s, besides the obvious look, are its suspension bits and what it can do. RAM sells all of these components separately so you can outfit your RAM and make it on par with the Raptor.
GM had a pretty kick ass ZR2 with the old S10. The wider stance and it's off road capability made the truck pretty awesome in my mind. If GM can give the twins that wide stance look, suspension travel, and some serious room under the fenders for a nice sized tire, I think they'd have a serious winner on their hands.

I say good IF it can be backed up. That's money in the bank for future trucks. Just like the new Corvette. Many will buy just for that status. And Why does that status exist? Because it's the best and can Back It Up that's why. People want a No Compromises off road line up and I hope Chevrolet-GM delivers. If I'm going to the racetrack, I know I'm going in with Chevrolet power and there's not a Ford or Dodge powered guy out there that will win against me. I want that same feeling of authority in my Chevrolet truck. I want that superiority feeling I used to have when in my truck. That Raptor should be but a joke...he said over 50% of the sales were to box checkers, those that bought it purely for status and looks.
Buick & GM'c', Destroying Chevrolet & Cadillac one sale at a time.
Ford's are nicer than Chevrolet's now..
The only Great Chevrolet's left are racecars...

i hope they go the power wagon route....i know i know not very likely at all...
the only hope that its a raptor contender is that theyve already released what the the z71 will be...the zr2 and z71 cant be the same thing.
is there anything tying the zr2 directly to silverado? could it be a colorado trim instead (i know the colorado has- or did have, maybe the new one wont- had z71 as well).

Forget the pickup truck body. Quit screwing around and put a body on it like the full-sized Blazer and 2 doors and call it a day. It would sell better than a Raptor competitor as it would have no competition.

Why is this not a GMC, again?
Not that I'm opposed to it at all, but I just don't see a GM Raptor-fighter being successful. Not that this is the best example, but the aftermarket RamRunner is seldom heard of and talked about. But if this did go into the works, it would be from the factory, so maybe it could prove me wrong.

Although I think a lot of people would like to see a Raptor fighter, I just can't see it making much sense for GM at this point. I think if anything, a feature such as beadlock tires would just be an upgrade for the z71 package. From what I have seen so far, I like the looks of the z71 trucks so I think that package should be enough for any buyer interested in an off-road look. In an economy like ours, it just doesn't seem to make much sense to offer a whole new trim level that would complete with the raptor. Sure GM might win over some buyers, but lets face it, it would not make too much of a difference in overall sales. Just go look at what percent of f150 sales are the raptor and you will understand.
