Re: New Photos: 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Police Car

With the Charger and this gaining ground, Ford really needs to get something built to serve police. And soon! Ive heards about a taurus but its FWD, and i dont think they will ever bring a Falcon up from Oz like GM has with the Zetas.

It isn't a celebration for personal gain, but for the benefit of others. Doesn't that ever warrant a woohoo in your book?

Less stuff to break, less stuff to worry about. Just a whale of a big car with the engine to match - reminds me of my old Bonneville 455.

I wouldn't want one that had been through drunk tank duty, but a Summit White detective's special would be welcome at my house.

Re: New Photos: 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Police Car

All I can say is I'm completely amazed that GM is bringing back the Caprice 9C1. When I started in law enforcement 11 yrs. ago I patrolled in a 1995 Caprice 9C1. I have driven many different police vehicles since but nothing compares to this car. I'm glad to see that GM is not just bringing back a familiar name from the past but actually bringing a new car to the market that police agencies have wanted for a long time. I hope that this car will become another legend like its predecessor. IMO I beleive that there is a civilian market for this car. It would be nice if it catches on and maybe someday is built here... Arlington Tx perhaps?

Re: New Photos: 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Police Car

Last night's episode of Autoline After Hours carried some information on the new Caprice for civilian purposes. One of the regulars, David Welsh, said that he had been told that the car would be shown at the NAIAS in January. He said that the car would be brought out after a time "to cleanse the palate" so that there wouldn't be a feeling it was a rebadge. He said there would also be some new technology as well.

I'm watching it now. I'm going to try to keep my ears open for that info. If it's true, I'll be surprised.

"Cleanse the palate"- read sell all the G8s off the lot before we even acknowledge that it is coming as a retail sale option.

New technology- read 32 MPG 3.0 SIDI and maybe in-dash navigation.

Here is the problem. Everything you say they are deleting from this car to make it cheap, only makes me want it more. I don't like carpet, leather, sunroofs, power crap, or onstar. I can install my own stereo system thank you, and steel wheels are just fine by me.

What I see in this guise is an awesome V-8 sedan with none of the weight adding junk to be carried around. I'll take mine in silver, thanks.

I have a funny feeling, that there will be a civi version or some sort of custom version at the NAIAS.

Re: New Photos: 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Police Car

The back end really looks like an Impala.

And while it's not really required to look great, those wheels look pitiful compared to the size of the car. But obviously this type of car isn't build for looks.

Heck no. Damn ADD got to me about halfway through. I did see where the journalist threw the idea of a civilian version at Mark, but he declined to comment on future product. That's what they normally say if they have some plan for it to be sold to the public. Otherwise he just might have said no.
