New compact sedan from GM Daewoo is to debut in 2009
The Expert, no. 6, 2007, p.84 (in Russian, the article is not available online)
A joker in a multi-brand pack by Andrei Fyodorov ... We interviewed Jacek Gorski, Commercial Director of GM CIS ... - Have you decided what cars will the new Saint Petersburg factory produce? - First and foremost, it's the Chevrolet Captiva. But we will also make a new compact sedan. It will be a completely new model, it's being developed in South Korea right now. Note: the factory is scheduled to open in 2009 Q1. NICE! I hope that they let us know more about it in the coming months. It's probably the Lacetti/Nubira replacement, no?

Re: New compact sedan from GM Daewoo is to debut in 2009
It would be interesting if the rumors pan out and the Lacetti replacement is a variant of Epsilon II. I say variant because I'd like to see GMDAT do their thing to make it more affordable (while keeping it safe). If that can all be done by powertrain choices, componentry and trim bits while keeping the platform essentially the same and using generic Ep II components where it makes sense, so much the better.

Given that Holden's involved with GMDAT, maybe it will be 'Mini-Zi'
Perhaps they might just develop their own smallcar as they have previously. |

Re: New compact sedan from GM Daewoo is to debut in 2009
It's been tipped in some foreign source I read a few months ago (Brazil maybe, but I may be wrong), that Daewoo is developing GM's Corolla-killer on the Opel-designed Delta-II platform for the '09 MY. The article stated that the Daewoo Delta2 would be manufactured in Eastern Europe, North America, and Korea. If it's produced here, it seems logical that this is what's going to replace the Cobalt. Perhaps that's why the Cobalt MCE was canceled.

Re: New compact sedan from GM Daewoo is to debut in 2009
It's being developed in South Korea with the international scene in mind.
It is the Cobalt replacement and it will be here next fall when it will also debut as a Chevy globally. Not sure if it will be called Cobalt globally or not. GM has developed solid equity with the name so they do no want to dump it in the US. Currently they are leaning on calling it the Chevy Cobalt globally and selling it as such wherever Chevys are sold. Styling is in line with the WTCC Ultra Concept. Engines are Euro Ecotecs and there is likely to be a global diesel option, including in the US market. |

Re: New compact sedan from GM Daewoo is to debut in 2009
Meaning an all new Cobalt to be shown in 2008?
If this true, GM will actually have a compact that should get the gas mileage of toyotas and hondas in that class. We can only hope. |
