This looks very promising.

I very lucky. I get to have a new car next year and GM is making my choice difficult.

Camaro?

LaCrosse?

CTS Coupe?

CTS Wagon?

If I wait a little longer, the Saab 94X

You should read some of the comments at the link... a bunch of Stang diehards came out to trash it, even though it is quite obvious the Camaro is a million times better in every way...

Good, St. Antoine did the words. I like his stuff.

And I love that interior! (excpet I prefer a 4-spoke steering wheel).
And call me crazy, but I like those headlights better than the larger production version lights. Give me one looking like that (with all red tails) and a red outlined bow-tie on the grille and I'd be set!

I will own this car as my first car. And depending on how my GM stock and 2010 options does (which all my life-savings are in, down to $25k from $60k thanks to GM), I may buy the SS. Is this the definition of a fanboy?

I think the Mustang will be safe. By the time the Camaro hits the streets, the new mustang will be launching. The camaro will have the upperhand for 1 Model year. Once the Mustang's new powertrain is available then the real fun starts.

Re: Motortrend - First Drive: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V-6

Every review I've read so far leaves me deeper in lust for this car (which will probably leave me deeper in debt). From all I've heard, I'll likely wait until the navigation system is available, as I'd heard late in '09, but I would have to wait until then to afford it anyway.

What they've reviewed her is basically my car (minus the auto gearbox of the photo car), and I'm loving what I'm reading. Besides, this is the sort of commentary I've long wanted to read about an American car, be it a GM, Ford or Chrysler product. If there's any greatness to be regained, this is exactly how to go about it.

Better in every way? I'll buy that. A million times better in every way? I'm not so sure. There were many 'stang diehards who had to chime in, but there were a few valid points like that GM has had four years to better the Mustang, new Mustang comes out soon with upgrades for sure, V-6 pricepoint will likely still bode in Mustang's favor, and Mustang still appeals to a wider audience, even if it is a lesser vehicle.

Yes, look to the left and see that I drive an '06 GT. But I am not a 'stang diehard by any stretch. It's just that when I was in the market two and a half years ago, what was there? There was a very new Mustang, a four door family sedan with no manual transmission called Charger R/T for neutered soccer dads, and an odd GTO. Now there is Camaro and Challenger again. Say what you want, but if it wasn't for that car which is "a million times lesser in every way", this Camaro would never exist.

Be it CTS or Corvette, my next car is GM. But damn, this Camaro is looking good. I only wish it were here back in '06!

Nothing wrong with that, the better the products the more the consumer wins as competition leads to improvements.

Also, when it comes to releases, one year may work in GMs favour, remember the redsigned stang came out? Seemed like everyone was buying one, ramp up the production, more more more, oh crap we sold so many and built too many more that we have to sell them dirt cheap.

Additional powertrain isnt going to make up for the weaksauce platform. If anything, its gunna make it worse...

I dont know about that .. the 2010 Mustang is just a facelift and ya will get new powertrains, but thats pretty much it.. the Camaro will still ride on a far more advanced platform. And i dont think the 2010 Mustang will even get a 6-Speed anything. The Mustang with the EcoBoost (which wont even be offered on the Mustang until sometime later) will be putting out about 300 hp... thats about the same as the V6 Camaro, so if GM wanted to one up Ford again.. all GM would have to do is add a turbo to the V6 DI Camaro, and easily push out 350+ hp. I dont think the Mustang will stand a chance against any Camaro until the Mustang gets a total redesign from the ground up.

Re: Motortrend - First Drive: 2010 Chevrolet Camaro V-6

If any other "oldtimer" cares to chime in.....

If memory serves me right, Mustang, Camaro, Challenger....... they really weren't sold as muscle cars at the start. They were sold as "personal cars". Or "personal coupes". It was after they aged and got cheap that a lot of them came back with all sorts of engines stuffed in them.

I drove by a Chrysler store today. There were at least six Challengers out front. I wonder if Chrysler has made too much effort selling the Challenger as the rip roaring muscle car. If GM is going to sell enough Camaros they may already know that it has to be sold as a somewhat responsible "personal" car.
