Give the G8 to Chevrolet and change the grille, badging, give it Navigation and call it a day. Oh yes and call it the new Chevrolet Impala or Caprice

I've asked this before, but never seen an answer...

Is the G8 really big enough for the Impala, let alone the Caprice, name? Most people I know think of the Impala and Caprice as large(ish) family haulers.

Caprice, to me, is a car the size of a Buick Lucerne at least. And an Impala should be larger than the Malibu. Hasn't the new Malibu become almost the same size as the current Impala?

If so, I say drop the Impala name altogether and bring the G8 over to Chevy as something else. Regardless of what others may say, I still like the Lumina name. Give the G8 the front end that it has overseas as the Chevy Lumina, problem solved. I always liked the Lumina version of the G8's front better anyway.

All good points but, yes, the G8 platform is considerably larger than the Malibu and similar-sized Impala, especially on the interior. I have to disagree about the Lumina name though as it has a cheap connotation to me because of the vehicles sold here under that name. I prefer Impala but if the body was given some new lines, especially retro ones, I could go for Bel Air or Chevelle.

One thing GM has to stop doing is bringing out new vehicles and after only a few years scraps them never allowing the vehicle to build up goodwill by the consumer. Back in the 1970s as today, Honda, Toyota have been making the Corolla, Civic and Accord. Every generation of these vehicles have won over the respect and loyalty of the consumer. "Buy a Corolla today and you like it, you will be able to buy another new Corolla down the road" Not GM. Example: Chevy Cobalt came out in 2004, today and next year it will be just a carryover until it will be replaced by another new Car called the Cruze.

When the civics, accords and corollas were running around america in the 70s/80S/90S, so were chevys called the VEGA, BERETTA, CAPRICE, CAVALIER, CELEBRITY, CHEVETTE,
CITATION, CHEVELLE, CORSICA, NOVA, LUMINA, METRO, SPRINT etc, but as we all know these cars lived a short life cycle and hit the scrap heap, giving the appearance that these cars didn't make the grade (many didn't)

Fritz Henderson has already indicated that the G8 will not become part of the chevrolet lineup. Last week we all read the GM news that the Impala will continue on in its present form until a replacement in 2013. The Impala name is the most recognizable car name on any 4 door sedan in america yet GM lets it linger. I am not a Ford guy but when I see the current Fusion and 2010 Taurus that are light years ahead in styling and offer features you can't even get on the Impala and even the Malibu it makes me wonder why the new GM isn't focusing more attention to the Impala to get it back to what it once was. The top selling car for GM, and years before the top selling vehicle in america. Come on GM you can do better, we don't need more new models, just improve what we have.............just like Honda/Toyota have done for generations, and they reap the rewards for their success.

Been driving only chevys for over 42 years...........

Re: Meet Your 2010 Chevy Car lineup

I own a 2008 Cobalt SS Turbo and I have to say hearing you guys call this car garbage is quite disturbing. Apparently you have no idea how well GM designed this car as a track car and how many car's it out performs for half the price.

The LNF Engine is a great engine, that with just a single tune can make over 300 wheel horsepower easily. Bolted on its a whole new game. That much power at 2900lb's is impressive and will outrun most cars and give the much more expensive cars a good run for their money. I consider the Cobalt GM's car for the tuner crowd, and since it's upgrade in 2008 from the LSJ to the LNF, it became the fastest car in it's class with a suspension setup second to none. Like I stated previously its a track car right out of the box.

Its interior may not be luxurious and full of leather and Navi's, and that picture of the Cobalt's interior in the OP is of the Base Model. The interior is simple and comfterble, but it's built to be an inexpensive sports car. Its a blast to drive, fun and easy to mod, has a great community, and rare to see an SS model on the road.

I have to agree! The cobalt SS is a hell of a vehicle. Enjoy !

I will say I prefer a camaro SS or a corvette more but the cobalt SS is priced well and fast too!

Id' say it was a great price leading performance product.

Cobalt SS
Camaro SS
Corvette Grand Sport/Z06/ZR1

GM just needs the G8 converted to a chevelle SS and we'd have a hell of a lineup.

Would have been anyway...

Thanks for the photos too.
