Re: Lutz Takes Camaro For a Ride Down Under
I wonder how hard they tried to remove that b-pillar?I dont think Holden can design or build a true coupe, look at the last GTO Monaro 2 door sedan,no convertable option, reminds me of cheap transportation not my dream car.Has Holden ever built a true coupe besides 50's concepts?GM messed up having sedan builders build our American coupe, thats why we have a pillar and Ed is hiding it.Ed,hydroform a frame for that rear window and give us the true coupe we all have been waiting for, stop being cheap,I will pay extra to roll all four windows down.I'm pissed at GM

Would you really have them make a heavier slower, worse handling car, just so you can occasionally on a warm day wind all four windows down and not have a B pillar where you can't see it normally anyway. It's only for an occasional improvement in looks for onlookers who are complete strangers. So do you want a show pony (then buy the convertible) or do you want a high performance coupe? Because Holden does know how to build them mate…. ![]() ![]() ...and their most successful one for performance & racing had a B pillar for a stronger better coupe. The legendary Torana A9X Coupe. ![]() ![]() Last edited by MonaroSS : 10-20-2007 at 11:38 PM. |

#1- weight. This car's target weight is under 3600lbs. In order to make the car strong enough to pass crash standards NOW and in the future, it will need to have a very strong side structure. On top of the fact that Camaro coming to market with a 5 star crash rating would just be icing on the cake. #2- strength. The B-pillar adds stiffness to the chassis, therefor making it a very strong platform and giving us drivers a very tight handling car. On top of this, it also gives us a stronger chassis so that we can put bigger and stronger engines in the car, factory and aftermarket. #3- cost. It costs a lot to engineer and tool for the chassis support to keep the frame strong for these impact standards as well as handling of the car. GM and Holden engineers are working tirelessly to make sure that this car not only handles better then any fbody before it, but it needs to be stronger, and better, and be a solid platform to continue AFTER the 5th gen, and after 2009. While I would have LOVED to have a hard top coupe without the b pillar, with the appeal and sexyness of that look, this one little thing is just a small bump in the road, but NOTHING that will prevent me from buying one. I just watched Transformers tonight, not to mention purchased yet another 5th gen Hot Wheel, I am, more then ever, sooooo excited for this car. I cant belive after years of nay-sayers and people that would laugh at the thought that "stupid" GM would EVER bring back Camaro, its going to be a real live vehicle again. To those who say that its getting old, and that you cannot wait anymore for it, I am one of many that wait with baited breath for this car. Its a big part of me, and a big part of many. Cant wait, dont want to wait, dont think GM is working fast enough? Im sure you can get a killer deal on an Altima coupe, Accord Coupe, and even the Mustang. For the rest of us, we will be waiting in like for our Camaro. ![]()

Re: Lutz Takes Camaro For a Ride Down Under
Both the challenger and camaro are going to lose on price. I have a feeling neither will be the bargain they once were, at least the camaro was. The fatest thing you could buy in the low 20's. AND it still didn't sell. Insurance rates killed it. It will be interesting to see who buys these new camaros and what price they tack on it. GM has a bigger issue in that it has a fantastic sports car,the corvette's, image to protect. Chrysler not so much, the viper is almost in the realm of supercar just because of its exclusivity.
