I think because the previous generation T/A's were so over the top they tried to keep that going but minus the screaming eagle it was just an excess of body cladding to my eyes.
I had a 4th gen T/A convertible. That car was a beast. The HP seems like nothing special today, but with the low-end grunt of the 350, that car could fly.
Still looks good today. However, with the top up it wasn't much fun to drive. Massive blind spots. From some angles if you were merging from an on-ramp on to a highway, you really couldn't see what was coming unless you stuck your head out the window.
Second Generation Trans Am was the definitive Trans Am, especially in the 455HO / 455SD days.
