Continuing on the buzz the C7 Corvette has produced, let's reminisce on the glory that was the 80s, and what icons were created (love or hate) within them, including the C4, which was arguably the first modern Corvette.

The first new Chevrolet Corvette in 15 years popped up in early 1983 as a 1984 model. Lighter, smaller, and much cleaner than the old “shark”, it arrived at $21,800 – up a cool $3510 – with a 205 horse “Cross-fire” 350 V-8 and a “4+3″ manual or automatic transmission. Sales zoomed to 51,547....

I think the exterior styling has held up well. I was struck on some of the uneven panel gaps shown during the video. Yikes.

Neat how they changed the music as they went through the models (to match the era), then BAM! 80's tech noise...yikes. I love the "optional cassette player" in a high $ sports car. Boy, the 80s were a low, low, low automotive time (although as a kid, I was still excited to see a new Corvette!).

the VETTE IMHO WAS the 80's on wheels all looking forward to a "techno - Computer" based utopia world and the late 90's rolled around and the future was NOT bright anymore and RETRO was the buzz word

I have both the early and late brochures for this car. The base wheels are only in the early version. I don't think the wheels made it to 84. The brochures I have are still when it was supposed to be the 83 Corvette.

I purchased two copies of the 1984 brochure from Chevrolet, and one features those never-sold wheels and the other is updated to show the final design.

These are so cool with the clam-shell hood open (as are the Solstice and Sky) - I think the engine is a big part of showing off your sports car. Kind of amazing you can't even really see it in a couple of Porsche models.
