Chevrolet had a hot new number for 1966 full-size cars: “427″, an even bigger big block V8 with 390 or 425 horses. A new grille and taillights updated the styling. Chevy followed up on the success of the 65 Caprice hard top sedan by adding wagons and two door with its own greenhouse for 66. Total Caprice output: 181,000 units....
Man, Lorne Greene really needed some actual marksmanship training, he wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn door, much less those cans with that trigger manipulation...
Lorne Green was huge back then. He even put out hit records without even singing on them (remember, "Ringo"?) My mom bought the 66 Impala coupe with a the standard straight six engine, with no AC, power nothing and AM radio, and kept it for 12 years. Mechanically solid, but the body rusted almost immediately and it leaked like a sieve.
That was really fun to watch, but boy does that seem like a different time if not a different world. My father's closest purchase was a '68 Pontiac Catalina. He liked the car but had similar rust and chrome issues like tombalas mentioned above. Overall his '64 Buick Wildcat was favored.
