Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
RIP . The problem with this car was the FWD and the styling. They were good cars though and I certainly dont think to big. My local dealer has an silver 06 ss thats been there for months out of every thing they have there its the best looking car there. Nice job GM another nail in your coffin. My two are nice and cozy in my garage and it would have been great to have a new RWD one for my daily driver.

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
A sad day indeed! Now America doesn't build a personal luxury coupe any more. They used to sell like crazy in the 70's and 80's when the Cutlass Supreme was the best selling car in America for many years. It's distinctive styling wasn't for everyone but you never mistook it for any bland Asian car on the road and it had a real presence. Too bad Chevy cheapened it so much with this last design refresh and didn't go far enough with the changes. This leaves one less good choice in a stylish American made mid size car. Pretty soon we will all be driving look alike bland Asian cars or cheap Korean ones at the rate things are going with the big 2 1/2. Sad times indeed!

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
I love this car, I would have bought one if I didn't have kids.
It's not the best looking coupe around, but it's a nice cruiser. |

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
Why can't they just produce a 2-door version of the Impala - and call it an Impala - like in the old days ? This would save GM having to advertise and promote two different cars (Impala & MC).
Right now big coupes are dead...but customer tastes eventually change - and people will want a big coupe again. It would be nice if GM was already producing such a car when the winds shift again. |

Way to run another great nameplate into the ground with an uncompetitive car and no replacement for the segment!

This is another sad day, really. Another long-running GM nameplate dies from malnutrition. The car did not keep up with what the public wanted in a sporty family coupe. So, while Toyota and Honda nameplates march onward, Chevy loses Monte Carlo, and will eventually kill Trailblazer, to be replaced with another new, unfamiliar nameplate that will undoubtedly receive too little advertising to promote the name. Another small nail in the coffin. |

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
The '04 - '06 GTO should have been the Monte Carlo. The styling suited the nameplate much better. Not sure if it would have sold better, but the negative reaction of the GTO name associated with the semi-dull looks might not have afflicted it as much. If Pontiac needed an equivalent it could have made a true Grand Prix again and not the FWD 4 door poseur that is still available.

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
No tears here. Personally I don't see why they bothered with the 2006 "refresh." They should have just killed it then. The market for FWD coupes is shrinking anyway, and with the G6 and maybe an Aura coupe someday...GM has it covered.
And it shouldn't come back as RWD (its not going to anyway). The Camaro will have that covered, the only people that would buy an RWD Monte over the Camaro are the MC die-hards.

I've never like the look of the Monte Carlo since it came out in 2000(?). The current update didn't help at all in my opinion. Not only have coupe sales gone down in recent years but when the product isn't competitive either that sure won't help. Hopefully someday down the road Chevrolet can offer a replacement that would be more deserving of the name. Some of the older Monte Carlo's were great cars. I had a friend who had a '75 and I still think those years were good looking (and huge). I liked the mid 80's models as well, at least the SS ones.

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
No more Monte Carlo?
Thank god! Can we get rid of all the ones that are currently on the road, too?
