Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
Good point tgagneguam. In the same way GM dropped out of the minivan market. If any market exists there's no reason GM shouldn't own it, no matter how small.

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
The biggest disappointment I had in the 2006 MC was the carryover styling. The front end changed and the engines were upgraded, but most of the rest of it stayed very similar to what had been on the market since 2000. Everyone knows the horrible back end styling stayed, but fewer people might have noticed the interior's swoopy styling on the door panels that was not brought up to date with crisper modern styling and complete interior makeover like in the new Impala.
Aside from the fact that it had 2 doors instead of 4, there was very little the MC had going for it over a similarly priced Impala. In fact, you could say it had the worst of both worlds. Same fuel economy, less doors, and older interior and exterior styling when compared to the 2006-7 Impala. I have to think that a lot of potential MC customers just said "forget this" and opted for an Impala SS instead. Last edited by Ming : 06-20-2007 at 02:14 PM. |

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
its too bad they couldnt have differentiated it more from the Impala. I think people just saw it as a Impala missing a backseat (and kind of weird 90's styling from the windshield back). Well, If all those people whining for a Camino really still want one, I bet Chev could jus cut the top off the back portion of hte couple. I think id be pretty simple actually.

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
Knowing GM they will revive the name 5 or 6 years from now like they did the last time. I would say the Monte is sleeping, not dead.

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
Sad day indeed, I have fond memories of the Montes from the 70s. Why Gm couldn't take a shared platform and put a modern interpetation of the 70s body on an updated chassis I will never know. It would have sold well........much better than the "Chevelle" everyone is clamoring for... Keep in mind my generation (X) remember fondly the old Montes,we were not around when the Chevelle was in production.......oh well.
I hope does not let the Monte name disappear into nothingness.......but knowing GM they probably will.........again sad very sad day. |

I thought they should have produce a 4 wheel drive version as a kind of Chevy version of the WRX - a rally car. It would have totally transformed it into a tough and capable machine. |

Re: The Last Chevrolet Monte Carlo Rolls off The Line
It is sad to see it go. However, there just isn't much market for a car like this anymore. I didn't realize sales were THIS slow though. Wow.
On a similiar note the Monte Carlo deserved to be more than what it was. I think if it had been RWD - even with similiar exterior it would have sold alot better.
