As part of a longstanding tradition, the MVP of Super Bowl XLVII, Joe Flacco, quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, was given a new car directly after the game and trophy celebrations. For 2013, that car is a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and it was presented to Flacco by Rick Flick of Banner Chevrolet, a dealership in New Orleans that was wiped out by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 before returning to prominence as the only Chevy dealer in Orleans Parish.

Last year, Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning took home a 2012 Corvette GS Centennial Edition. Manning also won in 2008, when he selected a Cadillac Escalade Hybrid as his reward. In 2011, quarterback Aaron Rodgers accepted the keys to a Camaro convertible.

The post-game show was sponsored by Toyota. I thought maybe he'd get a Corolla...

Flacco looks like a giant next to that C7.

I wonder why it is that GM feels the need to award expensive cars to, in this case, sports heros, who have accomplished some extraordinary feat. Why not instead, award that Corvette to a U.S. service veteran, or to someone else who has accomplished some extraordinary feat, who could not normally afford such a car. Mr. Flacco, while indeed accomplishing a remarkable feat, could easily afford that Corvette with what he earns from the Baltimore Ravens. I understand PR, but really, couldn't more be done by awarding a Corvette to a war veteran, or maybe to a retired Middle School teacher (like me)?

I agree, most of these sports people could care less about the car and what are the chances of fitting inside the car, give it to a veteran. At least they would appreciate it.

Anybody else seen the post/comments on Facebook about this? Astonishingly sad how dumb some people are these days....

EDIT: I spoke too soon.... some of the same sort of comments are cropping up here on GMI.

That explains why the MVP Corvette award ceremony was not shown... or maybe CBS did not want to show it as GM did not buy any slots.

cant they do both? does gm pay anything to reward their car to the mvp? its free exposure to 100+ million people. you dont hear about the other donations because theyre not at the super bowl.

When Eli Manning won MVP he couldn't have been more uncomfortable since he does ads for Toyota.

Nice to see Flacco is happy to get a Vette.

But Payton does Buick commericals so I guess it's ok since it's in the family.
"The car's brilliant and ... a great surprise, pleasant surprise for all Corvette lovers everywhere ... a huge shock to our competitors ... because I don't think anybody was expecting something that good. What pleases me the most about it was that ... I can say this is the first car that's come out, that was done since I left.

smfh...flacco wins the MVP, and he just throws the ball up for grabs on 70% of his throws....this is BS...Bolden, or Jacoby Jones should have been MVP....FLACCO is a bum, and will come back down to earth next year.

MVP is usually QB-centric. Maybe QB-biased is the right way of putting it.
