One thing this video does point out is that most segment comparisons ignore real world fuel economy and simply rely on the accuracy of manufacturer submissions.

It's nice to see the Malibu Eco surpass the estimates in hands-on testing.

This guy seems like he doesn't do the "drive it like a drag racer" style pedal to the metal driving that other reviewers do. I've seen some wild variations in the MPG totals for this sedan as well, I wish the CD, MT etc guys would actually take the time to do a kind of "Normal People Drive" section in the review where they don't include all of the 0-60, 1/4 mile etc times in the overall fuel economy totals. I'm sick of reading about them beating the hell out of a given car and then complaining that the FE numbers weren't up to par.

I know he's not a tiny guy, but see how he has to squeeze into the back seat and his foot can barely get in. Obviously, kids could probably just jump in.

Your observation is spot on Gigantor, I have driven the 2013 Malibu Eco and was easily able to obtain 40 mpg on the highway in cruise control on. It really pisses me off when mag articles complain about the handling of this car which is totally ridiculous because the New Malibu handles great and is super quiet and you would think your driving a luxury sedan. Yes it is that nice of a car. GM'S all New Malibu has been unfairly brutalized by the media and for no good reason. The only thing I would agree on is that rear seat leg room isn't class leading but it is competitive in the segment. Overall this is a GREAT car and I believe will sell very well.

I think you won't see this change until at least an MCE.

Like I have aid before. This car is better than the one it replaces. It's poor marketing and launch are the reasons it's suffering. Once your the whipping boy it's hard to break that trend.

Great car ...great review, only mistake was calling it the Verano's "cousin"...Malibu is actually it's uncle...the regal is the malibu's cousin!

Most of the media wants GM to die so naturally they will write negatives reviews highly rated Toyota's and Honda's.

Thanks MPGOMATIC for the honest review.

The majority of haters have never set foot in the car much less driven it.
Bottom line for me is...GM's ad agency blows and they need to get back to selling cars...not comedy or drama!

I agree. Mpg-o-Matic tested an 2011 Dodge Charger RT, with a 5.7L Hemi, AWD, 5-speed auto. And got 32mpg on the highway. Would love to know the real-word hwy mpg now, with the 8-speed trans.

I wish that tests like this get more attention in the media. Or the manufactures use them in their advertising.
