GM's Best Kept Secret: 2014 Chevy Malibu

Where oh where is the information on the 2014 Chevy Malibu?

We know when - possibly, but little else.

    GM Exec:
New York — The refreshed 2014 Chevrolet Malibu mid-size sedan will hit showrooms this summer, GM North America President Mark Reuss said Wednesday at the North American International Auto Show.

In my opinion they redesigned a part that didn't really need it. I hate the C-pillar and the area around the tail lights. Also the side is boring. Putting a new front end on this car doesn't make me want one. Hopefully i'm in the minority.

They're also sprucing up the interior somewhat that was my least favorite part about the current bu

Um, Easter of 2013 was only weeks ago....you will live.

I'll give you a hint. It will be "world class" for a few months, then Honda/KIA/Ford will blow it out of the water with their redesigns, massive fleet sales will ensue, and the GMi freak out will commence as usual. Its as reliable as clockwork.

Seeing more and more 2013's in the Bay Area - ok, you never see all that many domestics of any kind here - but the current Malibu looks VERY nice on the road, esp in a dark color.

It can't come soon enough. I have seen one 2013, that's right, one in southern Quebec.

Re: GM's Best Kept Secret: 2014 Chevy Malibu

I think the current car looks good on the outside but only with the larger 19" wheels, which unfortunatley are only available in LTZ turbo form. Something about the general design of the car makes it look just "OK" with the 18's and downright awkward with the 17's....more than the competitors.

The inside needs a major makeover. I was never a fan of the 'slits' that run across the entire dashboard, hopefully they are gone.

Finally, I don't know what can be done about the powertrain, but it really could use 0.3 better to 60 and quarter mile ALONG WITH 2-3 mpg in 4 cylinder form. THAT is what would put it even with the top of the competition. Needless to say, I'm eager to see what they are going to do with the update, having been a Malibu fan and an owner of a couple of recent models....but as of right now, compared to the competition the Malibu has an inferior powertrain, lackluster interior, and higher price point that the other models we would consider. Overall I would put it near the bottom of midsizers...and this is coming from a person who has owned 2 of them in the last 10 years and buys 90% of my cars from GM.

It needs to make 300HP, have room for six full size 6' tall adults, and get 40mpg or else its a fail.

The large C pillar and tiny rear window for poor rear visability is a feature of all Epsilon's (Malibu, Impala, Regal, Lacrosse, XTS) so this will not change for the 2014 Malibu.

My question is will the redesign produce a car that is class-leading in any useful way?
And to make it more appalling, how about standalone options and advanced safety features found on the Impala?

I wonder what it looks like and when we will first see it? Current one is way too tall and chunky looking for my tastes.
