Re: GMI Exclusive: Did Lutz Mean 2.4L For Equinox??
I think that these DI engines would work great in the next generation Epsilon II sedans. The Malibu could follow the Accord model and have engines that follow the trim lines. 1LS and 2LS have a 2.2 DI with 180HP = LX and LX-P respectively. 1LT has a 2.4 DI with 205 HP and and optional 3.0 DI with 250 HP = EX. The 2LT has the same engines = EX-L. LTZ = EX-L navi. And the Aura would begin with the 2.4 DI, and the G^ could use the same engines as the Malibu, just tuned for performance.

Re: GMI Exclusive: Did Lutz Mean 2.4L For Equinox??
Why don't they just make the 2.2 direct injected and stick it in the Cruze (ugh) and bring it out a year earlier than planned?
And change the freaking name back to Cobalt. |

Re: GMI Exclusive: Did Lutz Mean 2.4L For Equinox??
It's great to hear that the 2.4L Ecotec is finally getting Direct Injection and that it's happening sooner than expected. GM needs to really put as much effort as possible into replacing their standard non-DI 2.4L Ecotec motors with the new DI 2.4L Ecotec in all of its 2.4 Ecotec-equipped vehicles as soon as possible, and making sure that it is teamed up with the 6-speed auto in every application making GM's outdated 4-speed autos completely obsolete once and for all.
![]() The Aura, G6, and Malibu also need this upcoming 2.4 DI Ecotec(with 6-speed autos ONLY, no 4-speeds in any model or application whatsoever) as soon as possible to replace the standard non-DI 2.4 Ecotec in those vehicles because this would help solve the main problem with the 2.4-powered Epsilons, a lack of power, while further improving fuel efficiency in an already fuel efficient motor. GM needs DI in all of it's engines asap and this is a great step in doing so. DI is the key to give all of GM's engines class-leading fuel efficiency and performance. With the 3.6HF DI V6 replacing more and more non-DI 3.6HF applications and with the introduction of the new and upcoming 3.0HF DI V6 and 2.4L DI Ecotec, and the 6-speed autos continuing to replace the outdated 4-speed autos GM is definitely on its way to having highly competitive and near class-leading powertrains in almost all of its makes and models. ![]() As long as GM keeps this focus on continually updating, improving, and refining its engines with newer and better technology and design, continue replacing its outdated High Value pushrod V6s with their much better High Feature V6s and Ecotec I-4s(depending on application), and continue replacing their outdated 4-speed autos with their far better 6-speed autos they should have no trouble surviving and succeeding in the current extremely competitive auto market. ![]() |

Re: GMI Exclusive: Did Lutz Mean 2.4L For Equinox??
DI in the 2.2 probably won't save a great deal more fuel than the 2.4 to be honest. It may not make a whole lot of sense to have a 180 horse 2.2 and a 205 horse 2.4
Now a 2.0 Non turbo at 150 horse would be ok, with say 38 MPG highway or therebouts. The good news with this DI, and higher comp, it means that GMs typical small head ports and tiny cam profiles will yield very good low end torque numbers, so they could put these in small cross over applications. |

Re: GMI Exclusive: Did Lutz Mean 2.4L For Equinox??
Am I wrong or is the next generation of BAS is supposed to be base on the 2.4 L with DI, with or without turbo ?
I found this graph on autobloggreen : ![]() http://www.autobloggreen.com/2008/03...-hybrid-syste/ Now I can only imagine a Equinox or Malibu with a 2.4 L turbo/hybrid DI paired with 6 speed-auto |

Re: GMI Exclusive: Did Lutz Mean 2.4L For Equinox??
Maybe the existing 2.4L with different heads/pistons to accommodate the DI hardware lowered its displacement to 2.3L??
That would make both Lutz and GMI correct. |

Haha, well it just seems to always work out that way. I seem to always get everything together on Friday or so, so I set on it until Monday.
