General Motors CEO Dan Akerson has said his final goodbye to his own personal 1958 Chevrolet Corvette. The car just sold here at the 2013 Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, with a final gavel price of $270,000 – since 100 percent of the sale price is slated to benefit Habitat for Humanity Detroit, there are no extra charges from the auction house on top of the sale price.

The base price for a '58 'Vette Convertible was $3,591, complete with a 245-horsepower 4.6-liter V8 engine. Of the 9,168 Corvettes sold in 1958, just 510 of them were painted in this particularly attractive shade of blue, known as Regal Turquoise.

Beautiful car. Kudos to Ackerson for giving it away for charity.

Barrett Jackson prices seem less NUTS then a few years ago

Umm, no. C1's simply do not pull that kind of money. It it had not been a charity auction the price would have been more like $80k at best. Do not get me wrong, it is a sweet car. 1958-60's are my favorite body style but they just do not bring the crazy money a 67 big block L-88 would.

The top money getter's of this year of Vette would be the fuel injected cars. This one is not fuel injected, or at least doesn't have the chrome script saying it is. It is a very nice looking ride in the exact color combination I would like. Looks like it sold for a very worthy cause. That charity does a lot of good work.

That's a very clean example. Do we know the provenance of the vehicle beyond Dan Ackerson? How long did he have it?

Just curious, how does an article make the main ticker? I ask because nruggiero posted the exact same article an hour earlier and had comments, yet it didn't make the main ticker but ne_one's did.

I believe the '58 and '59 would be the least valuable of the Gen 1 Vettes because of the very busy toothy grill, 4headlights instead of the '57 clean 2 headlights. The '57 and '62 seem to bring the highest bids of the Gen1s. This is assuming that all models have a solid provenance and are numbers matching etc. The model I would want to own would be an 'L79 1967 convertible. Still, a nice gesture by both Akerson and Hendrick.

That has always been my absolute favorite shade of blue from General Motors. There was a color similar to it on Corvette a couple years ago, but not quite close enough. I would love a current Camaro in that color with a white leather interior!
