Yeah, perfect... just the type of knee-jerk thinking that a large corporation needs to follow when they're appealing for funding for long-term sustainability.

This announcement is all about optics, to demonstrate that the company is committed to exactly what governments (surprise, the USA is only one of them) are mandating.

Gas prices are now back to where they were 3 years ago, not 30. What other industry can lower the cost of production, increase the volume, jack up the price and report billions in earnings? And while we're getting accustomed to gas prices being "acceptable", OPEC is already talking about cranking them right back up again.

Nah, everything is right in the world. Someone in Dubai is laughing their ass off.

The G3 combines sporty styling, quick handling and is surprisingly well-equipped, with standard air conditioning, four air bags (two frontal and two side-impact air bags) and the OnStar safety and security system. With an EPA-estimated 34 miles per gallon highway and the lowest starting price of any Pontiac, the G3 emphasizes value without compromising a fun driving experience.
And then there are those who still think GM doesn't market Pontiac as a sporty brand.

$14,440 for the G3! I'm kind of happy about that. Usually Canada gets screwed by GM, but we're selling the car for $9,995

Sometimes I feel like kicking back on my easy chair, drinking a Jack and Coke, smoking a big fat cigar and just thinking to myself..."I love GM..."

The G3 doesn't belong in the same showroom as the G8.

Aveo should = $9995

Why do you think the G3 should have $2k over the Aveo?

I think that's better looking than the Aveo, hands down.

I agree, the price is a bit much and pushes it closer to the Vibe and the G5. If it were priced lower then I'd think that GM would have hit the sweet spot for the G3.

I wonder if we'll get the sedan version at some point for Pontiac?

Perhaps and perhaps not. That really all depends on whether or not the G8 survives long-term. Everything we've heard states that it will die by 2013/2014. If it does die - and the Pontaic brand takes on a direction more akin to Mazda - then perhaps the G3 makes a bit more sense.

If the G8 has a 2nd generation in the US (or moves to another brand like Buick), then maybe the G3 makes less sense.

Regardless, at this point in time with their lineup in flux, it doesn't bother as much as it may others. At the very least BPG needs a "cheap car" to sell - and thanks to GM's sales channel strategy, there are few options on how to get a lower-priced model into showrooms.

The G3 has been in Canada for a while and it's a surprisingly decent econobox. I'm not convinced that it has the refinement of the Fit, but it's almost indistinguishable from a distance and with the economy in the dumper it's clearly what many people are looking for as a town and beach unit.
Lot of beachs open this time of the year in Canada, eh?

Of course, the Fit does not have the awesomeness of the fender vent.

Re: G3, Silverado/Sierra Hybrid Pricing Announced

First thing GM should do if they get Fed cash is kill this thing and the division it lives in.
Correction... make some G8 Utes first, then kill it.

15k is way too high when the Versa starts 33% less.

Re: G3, Silverado/Sierra Hybrid Pricing Announced

This is a cheap but decent fix for Pontiac's lack of an econo-box. I don't think sales will be awesome, but it'll at least give people something to look at at the dealerships. Doesn't help the brand image much though.

As for the Silverado.....good luck GM. We'll see how many sell. Employee pricing may move a few, but $45k in this economy will kill this option.
