Edmunds Spies 2011 Cruze

Torsion rear suspension is projected. Any thoughts on what this will do to perception versus the imports?

The camry isn't fully independant in the rear but I'm not 100% sure.

Re: Edmunds Spies 2011 Cruze

I don't understand why the US won't see this car until one year after it's launch in Europe.

Other than that, I think it's a nice lookin' car. Can't wait to see it unveiled in Oct.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with Edmunds. I feel they were just trying to put a bad wrap on the car already. As he continues to talk about cost cutting on the transmissions.

Re: Edmunds Spies 2011 Cruze

Most of the car mags will again diss on GM again for taking shortcuts and not putting in a fully independent suspension.

I say as long as it gets great time on the track and handles well, who cares!

95% of the general population couldn't tell you what torsion bar suspension is.

Re: Edmunds Spies 2011 Cruze

What I don’t understand is if Chevrolet knows that they are going to be compared to European and Japanese standards and transmissions why don’t they make the necessary adjustments for a car that is coming out in 2010? As bad as I hate to say it or admit it they do leave themselves open to criticism even if most people don’t care or know the difference. Problem is people do care when it comes time to buy one and they look at car magazines and reviews for a tip on buying. They formulate their perception totally on what they read regardless of whether they understand it. I often wonder if the people in charge of GM read or care what the perception is .

Re: Edmunds Spies 2011 Cruze

It's already stated it will get a 6A. They are months behind on their info, and that is rather sad...

One other thing:

IRS on a fwd car doesn't make much sense to me. You have IRS, but then put a beefy sway bar on the back to tie the left and right together to improve handling. A torsion axle acts just like this, allowing a certain amount of movement from left to right...

Eaxactly. As long as it rides and handles well, you could tell people the rear wheels attached to the chassis with chicken wire and they won't care. More people, on the other hand, understand more gears is better, so I think GM will offer the 6-spd AT, at least on the upper end. As the 4-spd. gets further phased out, any cost saving from using that tranny is probably becoming negligable. Or maybe that's why they went with the torsion beam: reduce cost so you can afford to spend more on the tranny, which more people will care about.

Is it just me or is there no torsion beam to be found in that picture? I don't see it in the video either.

The sooner people understand Edmunds editorial attitudes, the better they will be in equiphed to see this for what it is.

Well...not to point to the 800lbs gorilla in the room...but the "torsion beam" Cobalt SS turbo has the record for fastest production compact car around the 'Ring.

Not a deal breaker, still seems like a competent and great car.

Fuel economy, interior quality, and gadget availability will sell this vehicle.

these guys are setting the stage to justify their "last in their comparo" and to justify why "though its new, its not upto snuff" coments down the road.

I know these people, they cater to their import loving audience and do not care for truth. they just want to reinforce biases, and make their audience happy and coming back for more coolaid
