Re: coming soon: Spark

Rubbish advert but the car looks pretty good for the segment. Like most GM ad's they need to focus on the car more and not it's surrounds.

True. From the vid i cant tell how tall the tire sidewall is - I was thinking more along the lines of a lower profile tire + larger wheel, which, of course, would hurt gas mileage
The Fit Sport manages to have wheels that look more appropriately sized for the car - thats what i was comparing it to - but the fit is a little bigger.

Re: coming soon: Spark

Hm, the tires do seem a bit awkwardly small. And I really dislike the dash, but other than that, I think there IS a lot to like about this car and I think it easily moves to the front of the class in it's segment. I drove a rental Versa the other week, it was horrifying. LOL.

I like the rest of the interior, but that dash.... eep.

That commercial was adorable.

The car looks smaller to me. The rear doors are much smaller, there doesn't look like there's much hatch space at all with the seats up, the wheelbase is probably smaller... compare the side view in the ad to this: http://newcars.ua/images/gallery/Che...oor-ext-12.jpg

It actually looks pretty good in red. I would consider getting one, but I'm a little worried about it's size. Would it be safe in an accident with an SUV like a Chevrolet Tahoe?

I think the Geo Metro just made a comeback....

As for that ad, I think it was for the Euro market, which makes the style of it make sense. It won't work here in the US though.

And to the person who said the Aveo5 should be called Chevette.... are you nuts? That would be the WORST idea ever. The Chevette nameplate should never make a return for any reason whatsoever. The T cars were some of GM's worst.

I like the ad. I think it will appeal to the target audience. It looks a lot like a Yaris except better, which I think is one of the better looking city cars. If priced right, I think this should do quite well.

Are you meaning to compare the Spark with the Aveo 5-door?

Yes, because we have questions about the size of the Spark. I think it's smaller... and some think it's about the same size as the Aveo. Just throwing out my opinion.

Re: coming soon: Spark

Dreadful ad, but European tastes are somewhat unique so...

Guys, the Spark is considerably smaller than the Aveo. The wheelbase is nearly six inches shorter, it's similarly shorter in length, and noticeably narrower. May not sound like much, but when dealing with small cars, it's a substantial difference. Since the next-gen Aveo will grow a tad in wheelbase and length, it'll put even more significant size difference between it and the Spark. While Americans tend to lump everything smaller than a Corolla into the same category, elsewhere on Earth buyers make sharper divisions with small cars.

I wasn't wild about the Spark when I first saw it, but when I compared it to its intended competitors, such as the dour Toyota Aygo/Peugeot 107, and the bland Hyundai i10, the Spark really stands out in style, and its interior is more interesting.

Re: coming soon: Spark

Good ad for the people who will purchase a Spark. This ad is not targeted at the typical person on GMI. It is good to see GM advertising a small car.

Can anyone remember an ad for the Aveo?

I don't know where you're getting this "European tastes" thing, but the ad is a POS. It's so awful it's not even funny. It's an overdone rehash of the old Matiz btw, I think GM is in the middle of choosing a new ad agency and RenCen's housekeeping staff does their ads in the meantime...
