Chevy Sail U-VA hatchback launches in India

Chevrolet launches Sail U-VA hatchback in India

Chevrolet has introduced a five-door subcompact called Sail U-VA in India. Aimed primarily at younger buyers, the car was developed jointly by General Motors and China-based SAIC Motor Corporation Limited.

Up front, the Sail U-VA is fitted with a Volt-inspired grille that puts it in line with Chevrolet's current design language. The back end of the car is tall and almost wagon-like in order to free up a maximum amount of cargo space.

Not a bad looking cheap car. Starts out at $8,000, but jumping to the LT ABS trim level makes it around $10,300, which you need to do to get a front passenger airbag and ABS and it's probably still lacking other things like side air bags and traction control.

Gah. I was comparing the Sail U-VA to cheap cars sold in the states. I meant that once all the safety equipment was added on it'd probably cost the same as a Spark or a Versa or whatever. I completely didn't type that, and I'm sorry.

You're all right. No apologies necessary.
    That's Silicon Valley innovation.

Then it isn't really affordable. Safety features should be standard on all cars by now.
