We've heard this before.....

USA: Chevrolet to launch Daewoo-built model line in Europe from January
16 Sep 2004
Source: just-auto.com editorial team

General Motors brand Chevrolet will launch a new range of Daewoo-built small, compact and midsize vehicles throughout Europe from January 2005.

Initially the vehicles will be sourced from South Korea factories, but additional models will later be introduced from other GM plants world-wide.

“This reflects GM’s strategy to increasingly position Chevrolet as its affordable entry-level brand for developed markets, and a volume mainstream brand for emerging markets,” GM said in a statement.

Chevrolet-branded cars built by GM Daewoo are already sold in several markets in Central and Eastern Europe, in North and South America, in several Asian markets and South Africa and GM claims sales have exceeded expectations

That's a great looking SUV. Let's hope the quality is good or it won't help Chevrolet gain status worldwide.

Realize how many different companies under GM make up "Chevy" world wide.
Holden makes Chevy's for the Mid East
Daewoo makes Chevy's for Europe
And Chevy US makes Vettes for Europe.

That little MPV thing looks alright. Like a cross between the Uplander, Nox, and Toureg(sp?)

Hard to tell exactly how large that is, but looks-wise I think it'd make a great Pontiac Torrent, or whatever they call the GMC crossover we've heard about. Not likely built on the right platform (if it's a Daewoo), but the looks are there.

I'm guessing that this is the production version of the GMDAT Theta concept show awhile back. What I'm wondering is why they didn't just bring over the Equinox to Europe? It looks to be the same size...

Sweet looking little truck! I love the 'Nox, but this would make a great entry-level Chevy.

Your post just reinforces what I try to consider, when discussing the auto industry. A lot of people who post in these forums take an "America vs. Japan" position. This is a global market, with all the players manufacturing, sourcing, and partnering for vehicles on a worldwide basis. As you point out, however, even good ol' Chevy, is not strictly an American proposition. Competition, as well as a global outlook helps to improve the variety, and quality of the vehicles that we as the consumers get to purchase.

Is this S3X Equinox-sized or Vibe-sized? Could this be the basis for the next Vibe or would that come off the Astra or another Toyota? From the A-plr rearward, it looks a little Vibeish to me.

By the way I do like this better than the Equinox (which I also like and may buy for my wife) and the Vibe. It's a pretty neat looking little trail-runner.

I like the look of it, and thing they should bring this over.
However, is the quality there?

I REALLY like as well! Equinox has really impressed me (although, they should put the Colorado's I-5 in it as an option), and so does this SUV. My first thought was that it was Theta based also, but are they tooling up to build Theta in Korea?? I hadn't heard that?

sncrducrx, do you remember your source for that info?

Thats been around for what seems like forever. Here's one link that mentions it.
http://www.auto-report.net/index.html?0310...0DaewooAnn.html

The diesel engines produced at the 19,200 square-meter facility will power a full range of GM Daewoo vehicles, the first of which will be a new crossover SUV based on GM's light-weight Theta architecture.

Here's another
http://www.editorial.discountnewcars.com.a...A256EF400076 FA4

Apart from its own far-from-finalised plans for a locally built SUV, Holden has interest in two Daewoos, an Isuzu and the next generation GMT361 range of US heavy duty ‘trucks’ such as the Chevy Trailblazer.

The two Daewoos are the C-100 being developed on the GM Theta (Chev Equinox) platform, which has seven seats and V6 capability. This could be in Australia as soon as late 2005 or early 2006 to slot into the medium category.

But less well known is the C-105, a smaller five-seater, four-cylinder compact SUV that is based on the old Daewoo J200 platform.

Started by the old Daewoo Motor Corporation, GM Daewoo has continued on development.

The styling of both cars is heavily influenced by former Holden design director Mike Simcoe, who served a stint at Daewoo before his recent posting to the US.

And There will be more GM platform vehicles built in korea. GM has a Global plan.

I'm Guessing Epsilon and the Next gen Astra/Zafira as well.
