Re: Chevy Delta II news...

Who cares what the name is? Its not really a big deal... what is important is that Chevy quickly bring a competitive fuel efficient compact to the market ASAP. They could call it Chevette for all I care, as long as they get it right, the car will sell.

Does anybody know if there will be a coupe? I love the current Cobalt coupe... Not so much the sedan... It would be a shame if they axed it since Chevy and Honda are the only 2 companies that offer a real compact coupe right now... (the Focus is more of a 2 door sedan than a real coupe, the roofline is almost the same as the 4 door).

Thankfully not, but as Chevrolaewoo isn't that popular in the UK, it's not that important to us. In Australia and New Zealand, it's a different story as the Viva (Lacetti) is a more important part of Holden's line-up, although it still hasn't replaced the Astra the way that Daewoo models have replaced other Opel-sourced products.

As regards the merits of the Nova name, Holden sold a car called the Nova in Australia until 1996, although its poor sales had more to do with the fact that it was (a rebadged Toyota Corolla like the Geo Prizm in the US) than what it was called.I don't think the Nova name was ever used in Brazil, although it wouldn't have had any potential problems as nova in Portuguese means 'new', not 'doesn't go', which is não vai.

The original Corsa was badged as a Nova by Vauxhall until 1993 - it's just as well that the name was changed to bring it into line with Opel, as the Nova gained an image problem associated with boy racers.
