Re: Chevy Delta II news...
If it can't be Cobolt everywhere, Nova or Viva would be ok.

Re: Chevy Delta II news...
I like Cobalt, and I would also like Nova, but for some reason I think its going to be Optra.
One thing, though, that front end is just butt ugly. I don't like the grill cutting into the hood at all. We all should really bug the crap out of GM about this before it gets finalized. The interior had better not have any Korean sourced toxic materials. |

Re: Chevy Delta II news...
I can't believe they're finally going to have the same name everywhere. Amazing! Took them, what? A few decades? Cool.
I'd vote for Chevelle. It sounds nice, has the "Chev" in the name. Sure, a Chevelle was something else years ago, but if they have to change the name at least make it something with some semblance of sense and tied to heritage. |

Go here and let them know what you think of the front end and possible name change:

Re: Chevy Delta II news...
Guaranteed will never be named Nova ever again. With such a large portion of the global population speaking Spanish, No Va (No go) will never been seen on a global chevy, or even an American chevy. Accept it and move on guys

Re: Chevy Delta II news...
I stand by all of my previous posts; Cobalt is the best possible name for this car!! If it isn't easy to say in other countries, I say too bad. In my opinion, if you give this car a name like "Optra", even the core Chevy folks will ignore it. I agree that it should have a global name, but if it is to be a Chevy, that global name needs to be American first, and global second. Leave the nonsense-type names to Saturn (though I like Astra and Corsa).

Re: Chevy Delta2 news...
I vote Cobalt as well. It's a strong name that has growing brand recognition and is rapidly gaining association with fuel efficiency. It's bad enough that it's going to be saddled with those giant eyesore Korean taillamps and other questionable design choices, but to get nailed with a weird Korean "Lacetti" or "Nubira" tag might just be enough to make people look at the Civic and Corolla as the safe, traditional, American choices. This would, ironically, leave the Cobalt replacement in the same position as the Korean brands of 10-20 years ago. Like selling a Chevy Excel.

Re: Chevy Delta II news...
Nova means "no go" in spanish- not a good name when the largest and growing minority class in America is based in spanish speaking heritage.
I like Corvair- it was an economical call and perhaps will get some rub of Corvette in younger buyers- and not far off from Cobalt |

Re: Chevy Delta II news...
This "Colbetti" doesn't look like it'll break any new ground styling-wise, to me at least. That being said, I think unifying the name convention for their cars is a wise move by GM. Makes me wonder if they're going to say "F*** everyone!" and forget all the current names and go with a whole new one.
As for the name being "Nova" ... http://www.snopes.com/business/misxlate/nova.asp |

Re: Chevy Delta2 news...
I second the motion. GM marketing has proven itself nearly incapable; a name change means throwing the [little] equity there is in the Cobalt name away and having marketing come up with a whole new campaign to educate consumers about the virtues of a completely new car. Since GM marketing has proven itself incapable time and time again, despite having access to plenty of cash, I say keep the name, which is a perfectly fine one, and continue to build equity in the name.
