Re: Chevrolet Volt testing

This is truly my dream car, but considering that its going to be $40k I think until the price comes down I'll be satified with either a VW TDI or Aveo.

The Vaporware conspiracy theorists on here (read: mental cases) really crack me up.

The Volt is coming...It works...And better than anything the competition has for the next 4 years.

Deal with it!

Re: Chevrolet Volt testing

If I was ridiculously wealthy, and the difference between 1,000 and 100,000 was just the number of zeroes, then I might pay the mark-up to have the first one on the block. But I'm just a regular workin' stiff making an average salary.

You see it all the time when a hot new model comes out. Back in '89 with the Miata, as mentioned here, the Prius, and now we're seeing it with the Camaro. Usually, if you're willing to wait 6 months after introduction, and willing to call around a little, you can usually find a dealer that will sell one to you for list price. Just takes a little patience and persistence.

Re: Chevrolet Volt testing

I couldnt help but notice that in the additional pictures of the volt driving down the highway, that there is consistantly a Ford Fusion and Toyota Prius mixed in with the testing group. Either this is strange coincidence or GM is learning off those vehicles as well, is this correct? I am assuming the Fusion is the Hybrid model, can't tell in the pictures.

I'm sure there is some benchmarking going on with those two models, because rightly or wrongly, those are what the press and consumers are going to compare it to, even though EREV is fundamentally different than a parallel hybrid. But at the end of the day, consumers are going to care about MPG and what it's like to drive, not the technical intricacies of the drivetrain.

Re: Chevrolet Volt testing

the volt will not save GM but this will. there must not be any more intake gasket problems and intermediate steering shaft problems that went on for years. These 2 problems have chased away lots of old GM customers as I had the intermediate steering shaft problem with a new 1982 Celebrity and a new 2004 Impala. Lots of people complain about GM using cheap materials in their interiors but using cheap materials in the parts of the car that counts is a bigger problem they have to solve. they need to prove their cars will last without any repairs for at least 100,000 miles by put a bumper to bumper 100,000 miles/10 year warranty like the japanese manufactures did to get people to buy their cars.

And a subspace field to lower mass, which will increase fuel economy.

Seriously, and why did nobody wake up the bumper people and tell them the car was going to be GRAY?!?!

Not that it matters anyway - battery technology of this type is not going to be ready until Toyota makes that declaration late next decade, so this is all some elaborate viral marketing campaign...

Unfortunately GM would be in violation of franchising laws of they forced dealers to sell for a fixed price. Thus why GM and others produce an MSRP number. It's out of GM's control.

Well Chrysler, surprisingly has much history in electrics and I hope that their erevs come ASAP. I would have bought the Volt had it been styled like the concept, different, exciting, bold...but I would take an erev Wrangler any day of the week...now hopefully that is not vaporware.
