I always did like that name. But, I'll be happy as long as they don't use Cavalier.

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

You all see the that ummasked front-end spy photo? It looks like it packed it's "angry eyes" and very much looks like the current Accord.

As for the name, I agree with this board's sentiment. Keep the Cobalt name instead of spending millions upon millions of dollars getting a new name out to the public.

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

It appears some of us like the idea of calling it "Nova". That WOULD be cool.. As long as it looked right. The latest Nova was a huge failure for obvious reasons. It should have never been named, "Nova". But something light with some power and a cool look would be okay. Something the size of the Cobalt would be fine..

A 1970 Chevy Nova was my first car...

I begin to think of the same thing. And maybe I begin to be crazy enough for receiving a straight jacket, of thinking of having Ghosn talking to GM again (if Roger Penske or Frank Stromach of Magna don't step up)

GM sure knows how to destroy a car, a brand, a company.

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

It was debated to give Malibu a new name. However the recognition that it had especially with initial quality, caused it to stay. Cobalt certainly isn't winning any awards, but changing names isn't the answer. People still call Cobalt "Cavalier".

I think the mid 80's Chevy Nova was a NUMI vehicle , meaning it was based on Toyota.

Thanks for the clarification. One blue Japanese box looked like any other to me back then.

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

Good grief, it's not like the Cobalt is a total disaster and has a horrible reputation. Keep the name and keep improving the car. Toyota and Honda have done this to death and have been very successful (even with the overuse of the ugly stick beatings).

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

Oh boy...it's not like the Cobalt is even a bad car. If Malibu could keep its name going from an average car to an above-average car, why couldn't Cobalt when it presumably does the same thing?

The only rationale I can think of is that maybe GM plans a unified name for this car worldwide.

I really hope its "new" name isn't something crappy like Lacetti, which screams "Korean Daewoo!" to me.

And people will call this next model a Cavalier too. I agree with what your saying. Maybe if they change the name enough, we will forget the older ones.
