Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

They could do like Olds did in the 90's and call EVERYTHING a Cutlass

Chevy Cutlass

Or lets just name it after something that is selling well

Chevy CTS... SOLD...

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

I got in late to this thread.
Haven't had a chance to read all 9 pages.
I would guess that everyone's excited and on-board with the new change.
I mean this really sounds like a great idea.

If we change all the cars names to Cutlass, we'll have the number one selling name in America!

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

My first car was also a '70 Nova but I think the name is forever
ruined after seeing the early '90's Toy-let with a few miles on the
odometer. The Toyota Corolla was rebadged as a Chevy Nova and built
in California for a few years. The ugliest Novas were the light blue
metallic ones with rust starting around the edges. It was the crappiest
looking thing outside of the Pontiac version of the first Kia import. Called
the LeMans, that was also a sore sight for eyes. Pontiac and Chevrolet ruined
these venerable nameplates. Chevrolet should stick with the Cobalt name
and just build a better Cobalt. The name sounds like its built tough, like the
Chevy truck slogans.

That's true but the name Cobalt has no equity. It's another new, forgettable name for a forgettable car.

Ideally a Chevrolet compact should be carrying the Nova name, but I'd hate to see them apply it to something as dire as the Cavalier/Cobalt.

If you use a name like that the car has to be engineered and styled to reflect it's heritage and significance, something GM usually doesn't do.

Just Kidding.... (except the part about my wife is true).

Seriously, they better come up with a darn good name because it seems silly to kill the Colbalt name unless they are planning on pulling that "Malibu Classic" garbage again and keep making them.
Damn. You got me all excited.

Volkswagen = Golf/Rabbit, been around forever and sells fine
Those cars don't sell because they have had the same name forever. They sell because they are good cars and get awesome reviews.

If Chevy puts out a compact thats competitive with them and gets the positive press it deserves, it won't matter what they call it.

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

Hi Everyone I am new here and thought I would put in my 2 cents...

Before the Nova was a Nova it was called the Chevy II the the Nova name came along as an upscale model of the Chevy II ( it wasn't changed to the Nova name completely until 1969),

How about calling it a Chevy III and having the Nova as the upscale model and the Turbo version as the Nova SS? then we can also have the Nova Spirit of America, and the Nova Rally......

Then we can go for a new Model of the Malibu, called the "Laguna"

Didn't I read somewhere that Chevy was bringing back the Caprice?
