Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

Okay, did reading comprehension skills plummet? What part of Motor Trend speculation don't you guys understand? This isn't a statement from GM we're talking about, it's an auto-rag passing along 2nd or 3rd hand guessulation (a speculative guess, if you will) about a car which may or may not be the next GM compact destined for U.S. soil. No one has seen a name on this test mule, and it seems to me to be quite a bit of guessulation as to what it is as well, but not, I suppose, if 50 people say it's the Cobalt. Well, if 50 people say so, it must be true - after all, we read it on the internet - but if it were only 49 then it isn't the Cobalt. Or whatever MT guesses it to be. Unclench your sphincters until given actual cause to tighten up. Okay?

I disagree. But I don't think bringing back a nameplate like nova is good. I think if you keep it to certian cars.... I'd keep the cobalt name too..

I'm not necessarily saying that I think Chevy should rename Cobalt "Nova," but "deserve" is kind of iffy on the name "Nova." Out of 17 years of Nova production genuine performance models were only available for 7 of them (1964-1970). And even in those 7 years how many 4 door 6 bangers were built for every early SS with a 327 or later SS396?

As I recall, in those days, everyone had a "luxury" compact, and the Nova LN was a damn good one. At least, unlike the Dart or Valiant Special Editions, shag carpeting wasn't standard...

A small wagon would be a good option for small families as we regain our senses and right-size our vehicles for our needs and wallets.

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

GM: Pick a stinking name like the japanese, i.e. corolla, civic, etc. and stick with it you idiots! This is car biz 101.

Call it the chevy "second", or "third" or "fourth", cuz after it wins COTY its first time out it will rank 2nd, or 3rd, or 4th in the next comparision. Why doesn't GM go and "steal" some of hondas top engineers and be done with it? Better yet, hire half the Motor Trend staff. There experts in all things automotive!

Seriously I want to live long enough to see an American company build a competitive small car, one that challenges the japanese year in and year out and even gets them to say, "F%^K! Those Americans are good!". Is that too hard?

p.s. - We got to wait 2 years for this thing? This is another camaro. I was under the impression this was due out in 2009. Unless they get a competitive small car to market NOW, GM won't be around in 2 years.

I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with the Nova. It was a very nice car. But I think it's kind of a stretch to say that a new car couldn't "live up" to that name. In what way? Style? Maybe. Gas mileage? Performance? Handling? The current Cobalt would top the 60s Nova in most of those departments.

Re: Chevrolet to drop «Cobalt» name

God, GM is never going to learn. Seriously.

Watch them turn around and say "This is the new Cavalier" thinking they're smart in going back to a model with a public name.

Only not a good public name.

The "equity" in the name Cobalt is mostly negative, so a new name is a good idea.

I hate to say it, However you have a point there. When the Cobalt name comes up someone always says something along the lines of "The Cobalt is nothing but a Cavalier."

And if GM is looking at the Beretta name, which is very unlikely. However, Just in case, it better have an Optional V6 and be offered as a Coupe Only.

Personal I think GM should stick with the Cobalt Name and change peoples perception.

GM STICK WITH THE COBALT NAME
