the cobalt could do well in europe with some minor adjustments. i think it would give the new to the uk chevy brand an upscale car that would hopefully stop it from getting a bad rep for being a line of dressed up daewoos.

O yeah definately send the Cobalt over there. Why not a Corvette as well? Might as well show them Chevy's best side.

It's kinda cool that the Chevrolet brand and badge will be sold in the UK. Wonder what Kowalski thinks. If prices of those cars in pounds, were what we could purchase here in dollars, well, there'd be a mass of new cars on the road, lol. Sending a Cobalt would be neat too, as mentioned.

i think its the chevrolet Optra5 (Canada)/Suzuki Reno (US)

Re: Chevrolet Brand Joins The UK Market

The Kalos is Chevy Aveo (it's sold as Aveo in Central Europe, where new Daewoos were Chevrolet from the beginning), Lacetti hatch is Optra5/Reno, Lacetti sedan is Optra/Forenza, in continental Europe there is also Chevrolet Evanda (Suzuki Verona in the US). Matiz and Tacuma are carryovers from the old Daewoo offering.

I don't think Cobalt would fit in the lineup - there is Lacetti already, and Opel has the Astra C, which was the base for the Cobalt, so technically it's very similar (a little bit more sophisticated, as Europeans demand more from cars of that size). So we've already got a "Cobalt with minor adjustments" here.

Not Impressed at all!!!

Basically, they are Chevy rabadged Daewoos, not to mention Chevrolet wasn't clever enough to at least, change the name of the cars.

So, Daewoo Kalos became...Chevrolet Kalos...Should I be impressed about this???

Why they didn't change for Chevrolet Aveo???

If you going to cheat someone, do it properly!

I Am not saying, they are bad cars, but in time of Motoring Excellence, these Chevy/Daewoos are a Big Throwback.

They simple scream: "HIRE-CAR"

Maybe, a citizen from the East European or a Cuban would find a Chevrolet Tacuma as an Impressive Car.

A British in otherhand, would say: RIDICULOUS!

"IT'S THE SAME RUBBISH WITH A SUPPOSEDLY MORE TRUSTWORTHY BADGE".

Yes, Because Daewoo had more resurrections than Rover.

I Wonder if GM finally killed Daewoo or they still exist???

I Mean, I know there are still the Daewoo Matiz, Daewoo Kalos, but Daewoo never was a "solid" Reputation Manufacturer.

Daily Woes: They Live, they Die and they Live again...and they die again???

Not to mention, that there few Chevrolet Dealers in UK and Chevrolet never was successful to sell cars in Britain.

Chevrolet has only 11 Dealers in UK.

I Am truly Disappointed, because I was expecting a lot more from Chevrolet.

I was expecting to see, Chevrolet selling the American Range:

Cobalt: Could perfectly be an Astra Saloon

Malibu: Vectra's American Cousin, GM would dominate the Company Car, Hire Car Market.

Malibu Maxx: This one would be a Great Rival to the Vauxhall Signum and Renault Vel-Satis

Impala: Could perfectly replace the Vauxhall Omega as a Police Car, specially now with the V8 Engine, Boy-Racers would be screwed!

Monte Carlo: Woo-hoo! the good old days of the Calibra would be Back and with even more Punch with the V8 engine.

Corvette: Well, you know, not every British hate them, and TVRs are Crap

The Trucks:

Colorado: I Loved the looks of this Truck.

Silverado: I always wanted one of these

Equinox: Could be the perfect rival to the Honda CR-V.

Trailblazer: Perfect Rival to the Land-Rover Freelander

Tahoe: Discovery...I'm Home...

Suburban: Range-Rover...I'm home...

SSR: Because it's Cool!

Sad, we won't get these cars.

We will get Boring Daewoos that the only thing will probably be more Reliable than the entire car, would be the Chevy Reputation, as if this is something to be Really Impressed...

I Only hope, they do not expect to see, the Potential Vauxhall Astra Buyer, to prefer a Chevrolet Lacetti rather than the Astra or a Ford Focus or a Volkswagen Golf.

Even, Fiat has a more Attractive Car Range, than Chevrolet.

And I am afraid to say, that even Rover/MG also has a More attractive Car Lineup than Chevrolet.

I'm sorry, but I didn't like it and I really can't see Jeremy Clarkson saying good things about it.

Best Wishes. :)

Oh and I Forgot to add:

They don't have any Diesel Engine!

Not to mention, these cars: Matiz, Kalos, Lacetti and Tacuma.

Were Very Criticized by the European Motoring Press for being Very Spartan and and Uninspriring to Drive.

Oh Dear...I reall don't wanto to be very Pessimistic, but I think Chevrolet UK will fail MISERABLY.

Best Wishes. :)

Ah, all hope is lost! Sir Jeremy won't be able to get around the Nurburing in under 10 seconds with the Chevrolet Kalos! LOL!

As for 'tricking' people... I think the fact that they didn't change the name from Kalos to Aveo is an indication that they're NOT trying to trick anyone. They just wanna ditch the Daewoo name. I have no idea if these cars compare to the European competition or not, but I can see the rationale behind the name change.

The Diesel engines are less than a year away. GM signed an agreement to manufacture small displacement diesel engines in South Korea with VM Motori -- Ironically a 49% stake DaimlerChrysler affiliate. The factory is just about done being constructed in South Korea and should be in showrooms soon.

So this should quell some concerns and make the new Chevrolet a bit more attractive to budget and fuel minded consumers.

One point though -- isn't it funny that GM ran to another Italian engine company like VM Motori, instead of simply leveraging the agreement they already had with Fiat to source Diesel engines? How would this save money for them when they have an existing infrastructure for it? All GM would have to do was open an local engine factory in South Korea since GM-Fiat Powertrain already build outstanding Diesels to begin with. Could it be that when GM made the agreement with VM Motori a year ago, that they already forsaw the disentanglement of their operations with Fiat?

Re: Chevrolet Brand Joins The UK Market

The Current Opel/Vauxhall Diesel Engines are from Fiat.

Now as for the cars, I have to say, I am Pessimistic about it, since Europeans always saw Daewoo as "GM Interpretation of a Lada".

These cars, might look impressive for Emerging Markets from the 3rd World, such as Brazil or Cuba.

British and Germans won't be Impressed with them.

These cars are just as Sophisticated as a Ham Sandwich.

Heck, even South Africa and Middle East gets a better Chevrolet Car Range than we get.

They have the Korean Models: Aveo, Optra, Epica (Daewoo Based) and the Lumina, Lumina Coupe Caprice and Lumina Ute (Holden Based) and the Venture (Chevrolet MPV)

OK then, so the Price of the Petrol is becoming More Expensive, but I would rather to see Chevrolet UK selling Big RWD/FWD V8 Cars than a Boring, Unreliable, Cramped 4-Cylinder Car.

When an European think in Chevrolet, we think about the Corvette, BIG RWD V8 Saloons and Big Pick-Up/SUVs.

I Feel cheated, because Chevrolet UK advert shows a a Kalos being en laced by a Cowboy Rope and then it says: "Smaller than you thought? But Hey! This is Britain not Texas".

It's an Offense to the British People.

GM is calling the Europeans as Idiots.

Just, because Europeans buys more small cars than Americans doesn't mean, we really need to have Rubbish Compact Cars.

At least sell Good Stuff, not just any Korean Rubbish.

If, you intend to impress someone, then do something Impressive and these Daewoos are just as Impressive as Bottle of Water.

A Ride in one of these Daewoos and even Toyotas start to look like a Bentleys...

Best Wishes. :)
